MANILA, Philippines — The latest Oxford-based Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism in the Philippines enumerated the Top of Mind survey on who the most present and watched journalists in broadcast and online are.

Longtime veteran journalists from the original “TV Patrol” cast of the then-largest network ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corp. are still the most watched, years after the station’s franchise was revoked by former president Rodrigo Duterte.

“TV Patrol” original cast members Korina Sanchez ranked as number 3, Ted Failon as number 5, Mel Tiangco as number 7 and Noli de Castro as number 8.

The list and ranking of Reuters is based on the visibility and top-of-mind awareness of the respondents. It is logical that news people who are in networks and who are also active on social media are ahead in the list.

Completing the Top 10 are Jessica Soho as number 1, Karen Davila as number 2, Kara David as number 4, Raffy Tulfo as number 7 and Atom Araullo as number 9.

The OGs of ABS-CBN are still top of mind even as some of them are now dispersed into smaller niche platforms. It is the same phenomenon as many of the original ABS-CBN-bred entertainment personalities who are still top endorsers today: Piolo Pascual, Daniel Padilla, Kathryn Bernardo, Darren Espanto, Bea Alonzo, etc.

Being the largest network this country had ever produced, reaching almost all parts of the islands both via television, radio and cinema, ABS-CBN was able to build names over 40 years since it reopened in 1986.
