Kuh Ledesma shares message of hope to typhoon-hit Cebuanos

Aside from music, Kuh Ledesma is also into her ministry. It involves spreading the good news, giving Bible copies, gracing worship boot camps and doing outreach activities.
Recently, she and her team went to some places in Cebu to visit our kababayan affected by Typhoon Uwan and share a message of hope to them. These included Ilaya and Taytay, Danao, Umapad, and Cotcot, Liloan, and schools like Maguikat National High School, Don Bosco and Jubay Integrated School.
“It’s my ministry. I really go to different places to share the Word of God, (and) more importantly, (the message of) salvation — kaligtasan,” said the Original Pilipino Music (OPM) icon in a virtual chat with The STAR. “One of the places that I also go to is prison. Again, when you go there, natutuwa rin sila (people there are also happy to see you). Ang panginoon talaga binigyan ako ng pagmamahal sa aking mga kababayan (our Lord has really given me the love for our fellow Filipinos).”
Celebrities like Kuh can use their status to inspire people and give them hope in challenging times and in dealing with their everyday plight.
Each visit was composed of a brief talk and distribution of relief goods. They coordinated the activity with either a local church pastor or a barangay officer. Kuh was delighted that many were intently listening to her and the Bible verses being shared.
They were “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God;” “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord;” “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith — and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God — not by works, so that no one can boast;” and “If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”
“You know, when I was a young Christian, tinanong ako (I got asked) a few months (after) I became a Christian, Sabi niya, ‘So, what is your ministry?’ Sabi ko, ‘Ano yun?,’ said she. “Then later on, I realized it’s your advocacy. Para sa akin ang pinaka-importanteng gusto kong (gawin) that I continue (for me, the most important activity that I want to continue) to do is really sharing the love of Christ, the gift of salvation.”
Knowing it will revolutionize and change one’s life, as one could gather from the chat with her. In life, people’s battles are also spiritual, added she. Strengthening one’s relationship with Him is important. If political, social and environmental aspects could be attributed to what has happened to our fellow Filipinos on that side of the country, there’s also a spiritual dimension to it.
Also our sense of bayanihan, or coming together, and resilience will also help our kababayan to start anew.
As a Christian, Kuh is also looking at some situations as an opportunity to help and finding time to do it. For example, someone who has a marital issue approaches one. It’s a perfect time for the latter to share how the Lord will help the person in that situation and be someone to lean on.
By listening to Kuh, one realizes the value of obedience and loyalty to God and reading the Bible.
“Alam mo sundin mo ang sinasabi Niya (you know, follow what He’s telling you), the blessings will pour into your life,” shared she.
After the visit to Cebu, Kuh said at the time of the chat that they would like to go again there in about two weeks’ time and hope to go to Bacolod.
Since Christmas is around the corner, this paper also asked her about any shows that she has lined up for the merry season.
“We’re doing it in Hacienda (Isabella), every year yan,” shared she, “(It will be held) the Saturday after Christmas, between Christmas and New Year. We always have a celebration there.”
Kuh and daughter Isabella might invite friends like a singer-comedian from the entertainment industry and get talented children around their area to be part of the showcase.
Again, Kuh allocates time for her ministry aside from headlining or guesting shows here and abroad.
