Jeremy G gets listeners ‘ODDicted’
Kapamilya artist Jeremy G on his new EP, ‘ODDicted:’ ‘I felt like it (the title) fit very well because everyone has their different addiction when it comes to love. And sometimes, it’s way off from what you would expect, but it doesn’t mean that it’s wrong. So, people can call you odd but it doesn’t mean that you’re wrong in loving that certain thing and loving a certain person. I feel like it was a great thing to encapsulate the whole theme because all of the songs talk about either loving someone or loving yourself.’

MANILA, Philippines — After releasing his first full-length album, “Late Night Madness,” two years ago, Kapamilya artist Jeremy G admitted that he lost his spark for songwriting.

“I lost inspiration in trying to write for myself. I would try to write, but nothing came out, and it wasn’t good enough,” he recalled during a presscon and album listening party of his newly minted EP in Makati City.

“But I felt like when I was writing for other artists, it helped me develop that inspiration even more and the capability that I can do as a producer-songwriter. So, those collaborations, especially when I’m helping other artists start their music careers, I felt it helped shape this, especially this EP even more.”

Jeremy collaborated with Regine Velasquez-Alcasid for Moonlight Kisses and with BINI Aiah for BINI in “Late Night Madness.”

For the first volume of his two-part album called “ODDicted,” he co-wrote and produced the six-track EP with pop duo Darren Cashwell. It is composed of tracks, such as, hopeless romantic, addicted 2 u, Parking Lot with Darren and Chie Filomeno, so good, why me? and Parking Lot – Hotter Version.

Jeremy told The STAR that, apart from the vibe, he took more of a musical risk with his latest EP, “ODDicted.”

“Because this is the kind of music that I grew up listening to in the US (United States). But I incorporated it with OPM (Original Pilipino Music) sound that I grew to love here after I came here from the US to join ‘The Voice (Teens),’” he added.

“So, parang I try to mesh both together and for me it was a big risk because there was a time that I didn’t know if anyone would receive it well. But instead of just contemplating on that, I felt like it was good for me to release, take the risk. Tapos natutuwa naman ako na there’s people that resonated with the songs.”

Seeing all the positive comments on social media, the pop, R&B singer was glad that he took the risk and that people are “starting to see what kind of sound Jeremy G has.”

With the key track addicted 2 u, Jeremy felt that “ODDicted” was the perfect title for the EP because it reflects one’s “addiction” when in a relationship.

“I felt like it fit very well because everyone has their different addiction when it comes to love,” mused Jeremy.

“And sometimes, it’s way off from what you would expect, but it doesn’t mean that it’s wrong. So, people can call you odd, but it doesn’t mean that you’re wrong in loving that certain thing and loving a certain person. I feel like it was a great thing to encapsulate the whole theme because all of the songs talk about either loving someone or loving yourself.”

The core message that he wants to convey to his listeners is “It’s OK to be odd, and it’s OK to love what you love.”

“Don’t be shy about it kasi baka mamaya there are people that are addicted to the same thing. So, be odd, be proud of it, and be yourself.”

Asked about his odd qualities, Jeremy shared, “Even if I’m a host, I like to be alone. I feel like that’s how I can write all these songs. I feel that’s the most odd thing for me.”

Aside from being a singer, Jeremy is also a mainstay of the Sunday noontime variety show, “iWant ASAP.”

“ODDicted” is available on all streaming platforms.
