Amid the corruption scandal, we all need comic relief. And that’s exactly what John Estrada and Long Mejia’s new sitcom, “Wais at EngEng,” will provide. It airs every Saturday, 7 p.m. on Puregold’s YouTube Channel.

John’s cute nephew, Zach Bederi, is part of the cast. John and Long’s tandem is zanier the third time around. The duo’s previous sitcoms are “Hapi Together” and “John & Ellen.”

Doing comedy is close to John’s heart because his foray into showbiz began in the sitcom, “Palibhasa Lalake.” So even if he’s busy doing the hit action series, “Batang Quiapo,” John did not pass up the chance to dabble in comedy again.

“’Wais at EngEng’ is like a breath of fresh air during this time of political chaos and earthquakes,” he said. “Click talaga kami ni Long so solid ang punchlines namin.”

Leave it to John and Long to turn your “bad trip” into “laugh trip.”

After the mediacon of his new show, John granted me an interview for my DollywoodPH YouTube Channel.

“I cannot thank him enough for sharing what’s in his heart of hearts. I was so touched when he said, ‘Ayoko talaga nagpapa-interview but I can’t say NO to you, dearie,’” he said.

John makes me realize all the more that friends are family we choose.

As a teaser, let me share some quotes of John (for more, catch his episode on my vlog).

“Pri (Meirelles) is the love of my life. I hope she will still be around when I’m done fighting my own demons.”

“I cannot speak on behalf of my daughter, Kaila regarding the issue linking her to Daniel Padilla. I’ve worked with Daniel and I admire him kasi wala siyang ere (he has no airs) at all even if he’s a superstar and he is very respectful.”

“If and when Pri and I fix what needs to be fixed, I would be willing to remarry her if she wants to.”

Cinesilip is first Risque Moviefest

Make way for the very first risqué moviefest in the country, CineSilip Film Festival. It will run from Oct. 22 to 28 at Ayala Malls Cinemas.

According to festival director Ronald Arguelles, there will be an awards night on Oct. 27. The entries are “Ang Lihim ni Maria Makinang,” “Babae Sa Butas,” “Dreamboi,” “Haplos Sa Hangin,” “Maria Azama: Da Best P*Rn Star,” “Pagdaong” and “Salikmata.”

Tony Labrusca topbills “Dreamboi” while Martin del Rosario headlines “Haplos sa Hangin.”

Experience seven films unafraid to explore passion, tackle stories that stir intrigue, and push the boundaries of Filipino filmmaking. None of your desires will be left unsatisfied. Viva la pelicula erotica!

Here are quotes from Ronald, Tony and Martin:

Ronald: “Out of 105 films submitted to us in Viva, we chose only seven. We want to give an opportunity to new directors who have not worked with Viva yet.”

Tony: “Doing ‘Dreamboi’ brought out my wildest side. I lived vicariously through my character. We are all sexual as humans. It’s interesting to watch how all the entries incorporated our sensual nature in beautiful stories.”

Martin: “’Haplos sa Hangin’ is about fatal attraction. It’s the most daring film I’ve done. Winning an award will just be a bonus because working with such a great team makes me feel like a winner already.”

Babyface, Patti Austin together in concert

Renen and Celine de Guia of Ovation Productions share a throwback photo with Babyface, who’s coming to Manila on Oct. 27 at the SM Mall of Asia Arena for a concert with Patti Aus

My good friend, Renen de Guia, whom I fondly call CP (Concert Producer) King never fails to surprise music buffs.

His Ovation Productions is mounting yet another SRO-worthy concert (with Blast TV as media partner). Catch Babyface back-to-back with Patti Austin at the SM Mall of Asia Arena on Oct. 27, 8 p.m. with tickets available via smtickets.com.

Kenny Edmonds a.k.a. Babyface is a 13-time Grammy award-winning recording artist, songwriter and producer. He is one of the most celebrated forces in music history, having written and produced hits for Michael Jackson, Madonna, Beyonce, Bruno Mars, Ariana Grande, Celine Dion, Barbara Streisand, and many more.

Patti Austin’s songs such as Say You Love Me, All Behind Us Now, If I Believe, It Might Be You and How Do You Keep the Music Playing are part of the soundtrack of every sentimental Pinoy’s life.

Get your hearts ready for two OGs in one October night you wish would never be over.

Billy Crawford is back as one of the coaches in “The Voice Kids” Season

Billy and the kiddies

Billy Crawford is back as one of the coaches in “The Voice Kids” Season 7. Hosted by Dingdong Dantes, it airs every Sunday night at 7 on the Kapuso network.

Julie Anne San Jose, Zack Tabudlo, and Paolo and Miguel Benjamin Guico of Ben&Ben complete the coaching line-up.

Since Billy is a former child star, mentoring kids in the talent competition show serves as a full-circle moment for him.

Here’s my chat with Billy:

How has being a dad influenced the way you connect with the kids?

“It changed everything, because I can talk to them like they’re my children, and it’s more relatable because I know their ‘kiliti’ or what makes them smile even in the toughest times I give them fatherly comfort.”

If you joined “The Voice Kids” when you were 10, what song would you have sung?

“One Day in Your Life, ‘Rockin Robin or I’ll Be There.”

What do the contestants remind you about your younger self?

“These young dreamers remind me about understanding that this is a job already at such a young age, and adapting.”
