‘I’m free’: Nadia Montenegro on life after resignation

Nadia Montenegro's resignation as the political affairs officer of Sen. Robin Padilla amid allegations of her marijuana use in the Senate is an act of decency.
It shows her respect for the institution and the public's expectation that senate staff must be irreproachable. She chose to prioritize principles over position. It takes guts to walk away gracefully. That's not weakness, that's professionalism.
Nadia and I have been friends since the '80s. Her joie de vivre gives Nadia a natural high. Drugs are not her thing.
True to form, the "Marites community" is passing judgment on Nadia. Mob mentality at work.
How unfair it is to subject her to trial by publicity. Her resignation is not an admission of guilt. It's just Nadia's way of keeping her dignity intact.
I checked on her after the controversy broke out. With Nadia's permission, I'm sharing her reply:
"Thank you, Sis. May nanay na mga anak ko. I'm back home. Na miss ko my old life. I'm free. Kikilabutan ka sa timing ni Lord sa lahat. Grabe lang si Lord mag-orchestrate, Doll. I'm in awe. I'm opening a canteen next week for a big company. Opening another concept by the end of this year in QC. Going back to my love of cooking and vlogging. Na miss ko normal kong buhay. Not even Sundays were spared at times with my job at the Senate, but no regrets. God gave me the opportunity to change a thousand lives and give hope."
Liza and her lolo
After watching Liza Soberano's conversation with Sarah Bahbah about her traumatic childhood, the first thing that crossed my mind was Liza's video that is flashed in GAOC dental clinics all over the metro. It shows Liza's dental check-up and how she sought the help of Doc Mark Gan (owner of GAOC) for her grandfather's dental needs.
Doc Gan is the go-to dentist of countless celebs. Liza is all smiles in the vid as she thanks GAOC for her grandpa's new teeth. She comes across as a "lolo's girl." That vid was taken years ago, but it says a lot. Hopefully, that lolo is still around to help Liza get her smile back the way she made it possible for him to flash a killer GAOC smile.
Sid in 'Posthouse'
Find out how an act of restoration turns into a sinister resurrection in "Posthouse" ("PH"), which is showing in cinemas nationwide. The psychological horror film, helmed by Nikolas Red in collab with his brother, Mikhail, is headlined by Sid Lucero (Cyril) and Bea Binene (Rea). The joint venture of Viva Films and Evolve Studios centers on vintage reels being pieced together that seem to bleed into reality.
Can Cyril and Rea find the missing reel — and with it, the truth behind a murder before the curse consumes them, too?
They face not only the creature that shadows them, but also the monsters they've carried all along.
Here's my chat with Sid:
What challenged you most about portraying Cyril?
"The most difficult part is realizing the vision of the creator. I can only try to get as close as possible. In the beginning, it feels like I'm running blind, but if you trust the people around you enough, you'll eventually find your way to align with their vision."
What makes "PH" different from other horror films?
"Usually, horror is for pure entertainment. What I love about this film is that it throws in your face the effects of trauma passed down from generation to generation."
Since "PH" is about film restoration, what movie of your dad (Mark Gil) would you want to remake?
"Maybe not a remake but a modern take on Mike de Leon's 'Batch 81.' It would be nice to have a chance to visually differentiate the political state of the country between the '80s and today's — the difference between the culture of fraternities from that time and those of modern-day fraternities. Another would be 'Kid Huwag Kang Susuko' by Peque Gallaga. That would be fun and 'Magic Kingdom,' too."
Lance's launch
Lance Carr is all revved up for his next chapter after "Avenues of the Diamond," where his team-up with Aubrey Caraan got solidified. The former "PBB" housemate joins Andres Muhlach and Ashtine Olviga in "Minamahal." Viva Artist Agency is pulling out all the stops to launch Lance into full stardom.
Here are quotes from Lance:
"I was the last one to be added in the 'University Series.' So, people got curious about my portrayal of Doc Clyden. I got mixed reactions. I cannot control the perception of people about me. I will just keep trying my best. I welcome constructive criticism.
"I want to explore my team-up with Aubrey more because we already have created a fandom. We are each other's support system on- and off-cam. We are clear about our boundaries. That's why our partnership clicks.
"It took me six years after my 'PBB' stint to land my first lead role. I almost quit showbiz and was planning to pursue a career in basketball since I used to be a varsity player in Ateneo de Davao.
"When I come across reels of Aubrey and me made by fans, I get kilig. It almost makes me forget that I'm watching pala myself and Aubrey. I turn into a fan of our work as a tandem.
Aubrey and I are taking it step by step. We are still gauging if it's worth it to become a couple or (if it) is better to keep our relationship professional and not ruin the friendship."
