Cup of Joe breaks more records; Angelo Miguel goes solo

It was fun and rewarding being the lead singer of a group named Inner Voices. In fact it was so good that Angelo Miguel held the job for a long five years. He could have stayed for more but the urge to have his own music heard and to be recognized under his own name kept getting stronger and stronger. So one day, he decided he did not want to be known as one of the Inner Voices anymore.
And so here he is, the latest addition to the Vicor Music roster of artists. Angelo Miguel is a singer/songwriter whose name is new but who already has many years of solid experience. He has done everything, performing live, recording, writing and arranging songs.
In fact, his composition Isasayaw Kita performed by Inner Voices was named Best Inspirational Song at the PMPC Star Awards for Music. He wrote the song in memory of his departed daughter. It is about hope and that is what he has a lot of these days regarding his solo career.
For starters, Angelo Miguel released his first solo extended play album on the Vicor label titled “Magkaibang Mundo.” Aside from the title track, the other songs included are Masilayan Kang Muli and Mula Ngayon. All three are his own originals.
All are well-made alt-pop ballads with hints of anthemic rock. Angelo Miguel has an excellent rocker voice but he has obviously chosen to tone down his sound to come up with a more pop style.
Marketing-wise, going pop, which has a larger market, is a very good decision. But there has been a dearth of good rock voices in recent times. Blame hip-hop and all those whispery balladeers. Perhaps, Angelo Miguel can fill that void. Maybe later on, when his hopes have come to fruition and he has hit songs getting millions and millions of streams, he can go and visit Pinoy rock music with an original or two once in a while.
‘Multo’ longest-staying No. 1 song
Speaking of streams, here is the latest Spotify Daily Chart where Cup of Joe (COJ) continues to hold the top berth. Multo by the boys from Baguio is now the longest-staying No. 1 song in the history of Spotify. Let alone in Filipino pop music history. That is a record of 216 days at the top. As for the global hit list, Multo is still there and it even went up 16 notches to be at No. 90 in between Cigarettes after Sex by Apocalypse and EOo by Bad Bunny.
The upsurge must be due to the excitement about COJ’s upcoming concert at the Araneta Coliseum on Oct. 10, 11 and 12, tickets to which instantly sold out. Another first in Filipino music history. Prayers are being offered requesting the boys to do a fourth day. Do you think Cup of Joe will bite? We might soon find out.
