Executive producer explains 'Peter Pan' connection in 'Alien: Earth'

Kristofer Purnell - Philstar.com

MANILA, Philippines — J.M. Barrie's "Peter Pan" has a heavy influence on "Alien: Earth," the latest installment in the "Alien" franchise.

"Alien: Earth" takes places two years before the events of the "Alien" movie, revolving around hybrids (people whose human consciousness are inside synthetic bodies) and crashed space vessel carrying creatures from the depths of space.

The premiere episode sees a terminally ill child become the first-ever hybrid, watching clips from Disney's animated film adaptation of "Peter Pan" during the procedure.

The now-adult girl takes on the name Wendy, one of the characters from the original book. Other hybrids created by the youngest trillionaire in the world also take names from the novel, like Slightly, Curly, Nibs, and Smee.

Much like the Lost Boys from Neverland — which lends it name to a location in the series — the hybrids do not age bar upgrades or updates to their systems, and the first hybrids embark on their first adventure to the crashed space ship.

Philstar.com asked one of the show's executive producers, David Zucker, in an exclusive interview about the show's "Peter Pan" inspiration.

Zucker said it is derived from the notion of the "Peter Pan" story, which he points out is much darker than most people recognize.

"Being able to utilize in some ways what's disturbing about Peter Pan's intention with the Lost Boys, and then find that sort of correlation to what and where does Wendy belong is among this orchestration of characters," Zucker ended.

"Alien: Earth" is currently streaming in the Philippines via FX on Disney+.
