Wilbert Ross on why he stepped away from sexy roles

Viva Artists Agency (VAA) talent Wilbert Ross is stepping away from sensual roles. He made this statement during a press conference that followed after he renewed his contract with VAA.
Wilbert appeared in sexy comedy films, such as “Boy Bastos” and “5 in 1,” in 2022.
“Yes, I could say yes,” the actor-singer affirmed when asked whether he had stopped doing sexy roles and was now leaning toward more wholesome ones. “It was like a phase in my life. And now the path that I’m taking is medyo malayo na po dun. So, yun na yun.”
According to Wilbert, it was the decision of his management to take that step in his showbiz career. “It was their decision na ipatigil because they saw another path for me, which is Viva One, and also for me to focus on music. Sometimes people forget that I’m also a singer. At least man lang maangat yung pagka-singer na image ko po.”
He nevertheless acknowledged that his Vivamax stint aided him in honing his acting flair.
“If it weren’t for those projects, I wouldn’t have come this far. I also gained confidence in my acting because of those projects. Those were the projects that I had when I was a newbie, but bigla akong ginawang lead. So, parang kailangan kong magsipag. So, parang naka-adapt na po yung katawan ko ngayon.”
Wilbert appeared in a number of romantic dramas, such as “Hello, Love, Again,” “Hello, Love, Goodbye,” “Men Are from QC, Women Are from Alabang,” “Safe Skies, Archer,” “Chasing in the Wild” and “Avenues of the Diamond.”
He is expected to return as Arkin Sanchez — this time as a lead character — in the fifth installment of the hit University Series, “Golden Scenery of Tomorrow,” alongside Bea Binene, who plays Via.
He is also set to launch a music album by the end of the year, following his debut album “LAMPARA” under Viva Records, which includes his collaboration song with “Pinoy Big Brother: Celebrity Collab Edition” Big Winner Mika Salamanca called Handa Ako. Wilbert’s other singles include Di Ko Alam, Langga and Makaluma.
Besides acting and singing, Wilbert developed an interest in hydroponic gardening and writing. In fact, his passion for the latter led him to pen a thriller novel titled Pagbilang Kong Tatlo and a superhero comics, which he plans to publish soon.
Meanwhile, Wilbert recalled the “funniest moment” that happened in his career.
“One of the funniest po talaga was when my name was brought up in an issue ng isang pinakasikat na international singer na na-book daw ganun for one night. The name of the singer starts with the letter S.”
“I was like, ‘Huh? Where did that come from?’ I read it on Reddit and Facebook, in the comments section. I just ignored it because it has no connection at all. So, deadma lang. Nakakatawa lang siya. There’s no basis, talaga.”
