‘PBB’ housemate Josh Ford wishes to star in rom-com, become leading man

Josh Ford was one of the promising stars who heeded the call and accepted the challenge of being a housemate in the successful “Pinoy Big Brother: Celebrity Collab Edition.”
Before entering the famous “Bahay ni Kuya,” Josh was acting in the Kapuso Public Affairs weekend youth-oriented series, “MAKA.”
And when he wrapped up his stay in the house, he and his character named Josh Taylor made a return to “MAKA.” Like all the other Sparkle “PBB” housemates, Josh simply picked up where he left off.
“After getting out of ‘PBB,’ I went back to ‘MAKA,’” said the Sparkle GMA artist in an interview with this paper.
His character, Josh Taylor, has become more down-to-earth, opening up to fellow students and classmates at the MAKA high academy upon his return, said the young actor. Initially, the character was crafted as “mayabang” and “maangas” (conceited and arrogant).
Although he is not yet privy to other details about his role, Josh shared that televiewers should watch out for some developments in the character’s family life (like Josh Taylor’s connection to Miss Chinchin, who runs a boardinghouse) and brewing romance with Zeph or someone else.

“With Josh Taylor, he’s a character that’s fun to do and different from the ones I’ve done before,” said the Kapuso talent, who also appeared in “Luv Is: Love at First Read.”
As for his showbiz career, Josh Ford jumpstarted it in the Kapamilya network’s “On the Wings of Love,” taking on the role of the young Clark, portrayed by James Reid, and appeared in “Maalaala Mo Kaya” (MMK). Around seven or eight years old, he also tried his hand at doing commercials.
Now, Josh is part of the growing group of Kapuso Sparkle talents. Thus, he is thankful to both channels.
“I’m really passionate about acting… and I love making people smile, I love inspiring people. I’m really enjoying it,” said Josh.
Aside from “MAKA,” he is also seen gracing segments of the weekday morning program, “Unang Hirit” (UH).
“I’m like a semi-regular host, which is very nice,” said he. “I started as a host-mate in the studio and after, they contacted me to become like a field reporter. We traveled to (places such as) Bulacan, Rizal (or areas within Metro) Manila.”
Josh does the “UH” games with the community people.
“Sobrang happy po ako sa nangyayari ngayon (I’m very happy with what’s happening in my career now),” shared he. “I’m very grateful.”
What makes him smile, too, these days is that even people on the street recognize Josh, who considered it “a big surprise.” He also attributed that to his stint at the Big Brother’s house.
So, what’s next for him?

“In the future, there’s a movie (that one can watch out for),” answered he. “If ever matuloy yan, nakaka-excite (if it will push through, it’s going to be exciting). I’m looking forward to it. (Hopefully), I’ll have teleserye and blessings like brand (endorsements) and online (projects).”
With his workload, from doing “UH” to taping once a week for “MAKA,” which airs Saturdays at 4:45 p.m., it’s safe to say that Josh has quite a lot on his plate. But he is up for the challenge and this is what he also dreams of: to have work and save.
As he pursues his career and values the work opportunities, Josh also finds time to recharge his energy by having enough sleep and having fun. He meets up with friends, goes out for dinner or lunch, or plays basketball or golf.
Striking a balance between work life and personal life is important.
Given the chance to choose his next character to play or project to topbill as Josh continues to expand his acting horizons, he had this to say, “I really wanna be a leading man. That’s one big thing, you know. If ever, hopefully, mag-star in a rom-com (I will star in a romantic-comedy project)… I love being sweet, you know. It’s something that I enjoy doing onscreen… I enjoy rom-coms and I also enjoy watching it, and of course, drama. It’s one thing that I wanna be (in).”
Watch Josh Ford in “Unang Hirit” on weekdays and “MAKA” weekends on GMA.
