Troy & KC Montero talk about their teenage years and present sibling relationship
Questions in the “Guilty or Not Guilty” segment of “Fast Talk with Boy Abunda,” my 20-minute daily showbiz-oriented show on GMA, had celebrity brothers Troy and KC Montero talking about their teenage years and their present sibling relationship.
Troy and KC are Fil-Am celebrities who began their showbiz career in the Philippines in 1995 and 1997, respectively. The former was a model first before becoming an actor while the latter made a name for himself as a radio DJ, host, and actor.
The Montero brothers were born and raised in Seattle by their US-born, of Filipino descent mom Cynthia Garabato Miller and US-born German-Irish ancestry dad, Cody Miller Jr. Their father passed away in 2018. Troy and KC have a younger brother named Colby.
Troy and KC are thankful to their mom for their good looks with the latter insisting that he’s only “pogi.” According to him, Troy has usually been referred to as the “guwapo” since they came home from the US.
“Dito sa Pilipinas, siya ‘yung ‘guwapo,’” said KC in reference to his brother Troy. “Ako ‘yung ‘pogi,’ parang cute lang, ‘guwapo’ is handsome,” he explained.
Both confessed they often engaged in fistfights when they were younger. KC revealed Troy would bully him more often than not.
“(I’m) six years older, ako ‘yung kuya, so you know,” reasoned Troy before he added, “Minsan he (KC) deserved it.”
KC, in turn, shared how bully Troy was when they were kids. He said, “Talagang bully siya, kahit isang tingin, sabay suntok. I didn’t fight back because he would say, ‘Don’t tell mom or I’ll hurt you more.’”
Although Troy was a bully, KC revealed how his brother had covered him from their mom so she wouldn’t punish him for his mischief in high school. “(There was) one time, because I was really a bad boy in high school. Sabi niya (Troy) sa ‘kin, ‘Either you tell mom or I would tell mom.’ And I thanked him for it.”
From being teenagers until they became independent, self-sufficient adults, there was no instance where Troy and KC fought about girls.
KC amusingly declared that they have different tastes in women yet he disclosed that some of his past girlfriends admitted to having a crush on Troy “kasi nga pogi lang ako,” he quipped.
Troy was guilty of being a playboy during his younger years. “It was fun but of course, now no more.” He is married to Aubrey Miles and they have two children — Hunter and Rocket.
I asked if they have the same style in courting women, Troy replied in the negative while KC stressed that his persistent attitude gained him a beautiful wife.
“I stalked my wife kasi ayaw niya talaga. She’s picky,” stated KC whose wife is the Filipina-Kiwi beauty queen Stephanie Dods. The couple welcomed their firstborn, Wyatt Cody Miller, named after KC’s dad, in December, 2020.
According to Troy, he only became persistent with one woman and that was none other than Aubrey whom he courted for six months.
Was there a time that they cried in front of each other?
“No,” answered Troy. “We talk to each other but we’ve never come to that point; we have not just reached that level.”
KC disclosed they also send each other text messages about the goings-on in their lives.
What do they continue to learn from each other?
“I cannot learn anything more,” replied Troy.
For his part, KC said, “I learned from my brother a lot. I learn from his mistakes.”
