Sid Lucero shares daughter’s role in overcoming anger issues
MANILA, Philippines — Sid Lucero admitted he had anger issues in the past to the point that he punched a guy who asked for a photo with him.
“I have a really, really, really bad temper. As in really bad,” declared the actor during the presscon of Viva Films and Happy Infinite-produced movie ‘Karma,’ now showing in cinemas nationwide.
“Like I went to anger management (therapy). I hurt people.
“If I have a fight, let’s say, with my girlfriend, I can’t punch her. (So) every car, from my car to the bar, butas na tires niyo. Hindi ko naman siya masaksak, so kotse niyo na lang lahat. Seriously, it was really bad.”
But that was a long time ago, Sid stated and went on to recall another incident. “There was this one time, I was having a fight with my girlfriend, and then I needed to pee, so I went to a gas station and peed and then this guy goes, ‘Pwede pa-picture?’ I punched him so hard, his eyeball burst. It was really bad.”
“So I went to (an) anger management (program) and then I found (out) it wasn’t really anger management, it was just taking too much substances,” he said.
As time passed by and as Sid grew up, he realized that “the world is bigger than yourself and your own ego.”
“And then you realized things that your friends say like, you know, IQ over EQ,” he added.
Sid eventually learned to “handle everything better” in life. “I think my ego was the biggest problem. I was angry about everything and I didn’t like especially stupid… stupidity pisses me off.”
Citing an example, he shared, “Kunyari on set, it’s 2 o’clock. Your cutoff is 2 o’clock. And you’re about to go home. You’re expected to go home and it’s 1:30 and then they will say, ‘Sid, we will just take this one scene, it’s only a two-minute scene.’
“And then looking at that person, I’m like, ‘But it takes an hour to set up, so what are you talking about?’ That pisses me off.”
He also mentioned traffic and other stuff that would annoy him as examples.
“And then you learned to realize to take a breath and step back. And like what I said earlier, you know the world is bigger than yourself,” he stressed. “Your daughter is born (and) you realized that every action that you make is going to ripple down generations.”
Sid’s daughter was among the factors that tamed him, as well as time and the people he “met and omitted” in his life.
“Now I can say I think I’m OK ‘cause I’m getting jobs and people love me. Haha!”
Sid’s co-star in “Karma,” Rhen Escaño, reacted that Sid, wherever he is at the stage of his life now, he is more at peace. “Ito po yung pinakamaaliwalas at pinakamagaan. As in there’s something (in him). Akala niyo sinasaltik siya or pumipitik on set, no, he isn’t like that. There’s something, there’s light, a ray of light.”
“Karma” is helmed by Albert Langitan and also stars Roi Vinzon, Krista Miller, Mon Confiado, Paolo Paraiso, and Leandro Baldemor.
In the revenge-action film, Rhen’s Angel, an ace assassin, is paired with Sid’s Rommel, an ex-academician-turned-assassin.
Angel witnessed the brutal killing of his father when she was eight years old. Angel became part of her godfather’s assassin organization later which only targets the society’s dregs.
As the story unfolds, disturbing revelations unearth about her godfather, the true nature of their organization, and the truth behind her father’s death.
Apart from “Karma,” Sid and Rhen are also seen on TV5’s series “Lumuhod Ka sa Lupa.”
