MANILA, Philippines — The Cannes Film Festival paid tribute to late actress Jaclyn Jose, the first Filipino and Southeast Asian to win Best Actress at the prestigious festival.

Jaclyn passed away last March 2 after suffering a heart attack, according to her daughter Andi Eigenmann. The veteran actress was 60 years old.

In 2016, she made history after winning the Best Actress award at the Cannes Film Festival for her role in Brillante Mendoza's "Ma'Rosa."

The win came as a surprise as Jaclyn beat the likes of Marion Cotillard, Charlize Theron, Kristen Stewart, Elle Fanning, Sandra Hüller, Isabelle Huppert and Ruth Negga — the latter two went on to be nominated at the Academy Awards for their respective films "Elle" and "Loving."

The festival shared a photo of Jaclyn with her Best Actress recognition on its Instagram account, writing in the caption that it "remembers her face beaming with emotion" following her 2016 win.

"As with so many of her roles, she illuminated this beautiful portrait of a woman, embodying it with grace and humanity," the festival said.

A number of local celebrities have also offered tributes to the late actress who has already been cremated, with several of them attending her wakes.

This year's Cannes Film Festival will take place from May 14 to 25 and it will be its 77th edition. Filmmaker Greta Gerwig will serve as the jury president for the main competition, while another director, Xavier Dolan, will head the Un Certain Regard.

Eyed to premiere or compete at Cannes are George Miller's "Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga," Francis Ford Coppola's much-anticipated "Megalopolis" (his first film in 13 years) and Clint Eastwood's final directorial feature "Juror No. 2."
