South Korean star Park Seo Joon graces a press conference at the Marco Polo Ortigas before a fun meet at the Smart Araneta Coliseum during his visit in the Philippines as international brand ambassador for Filipino health brand IAM Worldwide.

After his many achievements in the world of acting, South Korean star Park Seo Joon reflected on his journey and offered a piece of advice to his younger self, who was “going through tough times” during those periods.

The 34-year-old Itaewon Class star was asked during a press conference held at The Marco Polo Ortigas last Saturday on what he would like to tell his 18-year-old self.

“If I remember myself during those years, I was having a hard time because everything had a vague future,” he told the press through an English translator.

“But if I have a chance to give advice to my 18-year-old self, I would love to say that if you just do your best, everything will work out. However, even though everything will work out, I hope you will never lose your own self.”

Seo Joon has starred in various Korean dramas such as Kill Me, Heal Me (2015), She Was Pretty (2015), Hwarang: The Poet Warrior Youth (2016–2017), Fight for My Way (2017), What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim (2018).

He also played roles in movies like The Chronicles of Evil (2015), Midnight Runners (2017), The Divine Fury (2019), and the more recent Dream and Concrete Utopia. He also had a special role in the Oscar-winning Parasite (2019).

The actor is set to make his Hollywood debut via the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) film The Marvels as Prince Yan. The Marvels’ release date is on Nov. 10.

In terms of his acting process, Seo Joon will thoroughly study the script when he first gets it. If there are any gaps or missing details, he believes it’s his duty as an actor to fill in those blanks and bring the character to life.

He shared, “To summarize it, first, when I receive the scenario for a new project, I first try to take all the information I can get from that. However, when I see some missing spots, as an actor, I think it’s my responsibility to fill them up myself.”

Citing the role of a 35-year-old doctor as an example, he stated, “For me as an actor, it is my responsibility to try to think of what processes or how this (kind of) doctor (should be) and what he went through. So, this is what I think about (for my acting process).”

Meanwhile, Seo Joon has an upcoming K-drama, a period series titled Gyeongseong Creature, which will be streamed on Netflix soon. It also stars Han So Hee, Soo Hyun, Kim Hae Sook, Jo Han Chul and Wi Ha Joon.

According to Seo-joon, they filmed the series for the past two years including seasons 1 and 2. “So I’m sure that we will get to see each other again in December,” he teased.

The What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim lead actor likewise told The STAR how passionate he is being an actor that he couldn’t think of any other creative endeavors besides acting as of the moment.

“Since there are a lot of different genres that exist, I really cannot say specifically that I wanna try this specific genre. And of course, for me, the thing that I love doing the most is acting. So, at the moment I haven’t thought of trying other endeavors yet,” he said in response to a question from this paper.

Seo Joon last visited the Philippines four years ago. He was back in the country this time for a “fun meet” for the Filipino health and wellness brand IAM Worldwide held last Saturday night at the Smart Araneta Coliseum. Before the actor, the company also introduced and flew in Squid Game star Jung Ho Yeon.

He got to interact and shared some information about himself during the show presented by Wilbros Live.

“I’m very surprised (to see fans) when I arrived at the airport,” he recalled. “But I cannot truly say and grasp the scale of how big I am here. But being able to see how everyone is welcoming, I am really happy. And also I can really say that the reason why I’m able to stand and sit here with you is the opportunity to meet my fans once again.”

What he truly missed since the last time he was here was his fans. He considered his visit to Cebu as a “very memorable time” for him and would love to explore other vacation spots in the country.

He concluded the press event by saying thank you to his fans and the “precious opportunity” he was given to be back here.

‘BTS is the best’

Meanwhile, he got more candid during the “Never Have I Ever” portion of his “fun meet” with Pinoy fans at the Araneta Coliseum.

When asked if he already tried the Philippine staple food chicken adobo, he replied “No, not yet,” and stressed that if there’s a chance, he would love to try it on his next visit.

But fans went wild when Seo Joon channeled his inner BTS fan after he mentioned that he loves listening to their music.

“BTS is the best,” he said.

Seo Joon and BTS member V are known to have a close friendship and they are both part of a group called “Wooga Squad.”

He also revealed his favorite outfit, eating habits, and how he achieves a work-life balance amid a busy schedule.

“Personally, I love to wear casual clothes, but I think because of you, I have to wear more sleeping clothes,” he also said.

He noted that he never stayed home wearing sleepwear for the whole day.

“I can say that I have never stayed all day at home (wearing sleepwear), since mostly I just wear my pants,” he said as the crowd went wild.

Seo Joon loves watching films in the cinemas alone and has traveled alone several times during his free time.

“I love films, so I go to cinemas alone a lot. And whenever I have a premiere of a new movie, I would love to see, personally, how the audience reacts,” he said.

As for his diet, the actor also said that he never skipped eating for a whole day.

“I am a person who would rather eat a lot, and exercise a lot,” he noted.

Nevertheless, he opened up about not having much confidence in his physique, which is why he tries his best to work out regularly. — report from Janelle Lorzano
