Former The Voice Kids hopeful scores recording contract
When The Voice Kids Season 5 hopeful Giani Sarita was still a toddler, he started humming not just children’s melodies or pop songs, but surprisingly, Mozart and Vivaldi arias.
Giani joined his mom and dad in the church choir as early as he was only two years old. “So I guess I always love music and singing ever since I heard it,” he disclosed.
When he was only two years old, Giani readily competed in The Vocal Fusion singing contest in Papua New Guinea (PNG), where his dad is based and where they transferred from Cebu.
“I didn’t know I was competing back then,” Giani admitted. “I just like making people happy whenever I sing.”
Giani’s mom manages the family business in Laguna, while his dad works as an OFW in Papua New Guinea.
“Both my mom and dad’s families are musically inclined, but not really professional singers,” Giani shared. “My dad and mom’s dad (grandpa) was part of a band, my grandmother’s family (maternal) are mostly musicians, my uncle is a recording engineer.”
When Giani was younger, he dreamed of becoming a pilot. He also hopes to become a varsity player in swimming and become world champion someday while he’s studying to become an aerospace engineer.
However, after he watched The Greatest Showman, with Hugh Jackman and saw Cats in Broadway (New York), Giani got more inspired to pursue music.
His dream got more intense after he watched The Lion King. “I wanted to become the Young Simba and maybe someday, have more roles in theater,” Giani wished.
The boy subsequently admired Hugh Jackman after watching Michael Gracey’s The Greatest Showman. “He was amazing in that musical,” Giani commented about Jackman. “I also admire Michael Jackson, his music, moves and just being ahead of his time as the King of Pop.
“Locally, I also love Miss Lea Salonga and Miss Joanna Ampil for their theater acts. I enjoy the music of Bruno Mars, Imagine Dragons and Frank Sinatra,” Giani added.
He was recently signed up by Curve Entertainment to a recording contract and Giani cannot be much happier. He recently released his debut single, Ituloy Mo Lang, penned by Jessa Mae Gabon.
“I am very happy that even if I didn’t make it in The Voice Kids, someone believed in me and my music,” Giani said.
Still, Giani considers joining The Voice Kids such an honor and one of the best experiences he ever had in his young career. “To be able to stand and perform for the coaches of The Voice Kids and the public was really an experience,” Giani allowed.
“I remember what mom and dad said, even my vocal coach: You have to enjoy and love what you are doing. Because performing and competing are not just about winning or losing. It’s about giving your best and having fun.
“Even if it’s easy or more so hard, even if it seems no one believes in you, you have to keep pushing forward to reach your dreams. Ituloy mo lang!”
On his spare time, Giani is into drums and sports like competitive swimming and surfing. He also does ballet, modelling and even participated in the New York Fashion Week.
Giani loves crooning jazz, pop rock and even the classics like La Vie En Rose (English version), Fly Me To The Moon, Believer, Grenade and OPM songs like Limang Dipang Tao and Tatsulok.
Now that Giani is a recording artist with his first single released, he is looking forward to having his debut album within the year.
“I would love to finish the album and keep on inspiring others through my music,” Giani said. “I hope someday to collaborate with other great artists. I would love to perform live in different places and reach as many people as I can.”
