TV5 leans on light and funny projects for the summer
TV5, once dubbed as the ‘Happy Network,’ collaborates with TAPE, Inc. and Viva to whip up feel-good shows. First is Kurdapya, which stars Yassi Pressman with Ryza Cenon, and premieres on March 18. The network also offers the sitcom, Jack and Jill sa Diamond Hills, which is headlined by Sue Ramirez and Jake Cuenca. Also in the line-up is the family comedy serye, Team A, with Jerald Napoles and Kim Molina in the leading roles.

Just when you thought that TV5 would take a step back and re-calibrate as the network just switched and welcomed new bosses, here comes three new shows off the bat!

TV5, and its trusted co-producing partners TAPE and Viva, have whipped up feel-good shows for the summer. Well, very much on brand as how TV5 was once dubbed as the “Happy Network.”

First off, Yassi Pressman is returning to television after the successful run of Rolling In It Philippines to play what looks like twin characters separated at birth. It is an adaptation of the 1950s Kurdapya comics, but set in the modern-day. The show is also her first-ever lead comedy project, so for her, it is a big deal in her career.

Also in the line-up is the family comedy serye, Team A, with Jerald Napoles and Kim Molina in the leading roles.

“It is super fun because hindi po siya katulad ng drama, very precise yung mga lahat na mga moments,” she said. “Dito po nabibigyan ako ng freedom and playfulness kung ano ang pwedeng gawin sa mga eksena.”

The director is Easy Ferrer of Momshies! Ang Soul Mo’y Akin and The Missing fame. Yassi’s co-stars include Ryza Cenon and Nikko Natividad, who will be working with the actress for the first time. Yassi just marvels at the idea that she could freely work with many people in the industry that she hasn’t shared a scene with yet.

Jerald was quick to offer his apologies to the fans because when he and Kim posted a

“I think maganda po siyang opportunity, mas nagiging open tayo to collaborate and experience with different staff,” she shared, “at madami tayong natutunan from other people as well and that is what excites me.”

Kurdapya will be shown on March 18 over TV5, back-to-back with reel- and real-life couple Jerald Napoles and Kim Molina’s Team A, a family-comedy serye.

Jerald was quick to offer his apologies to the fans because when he and Kim posted a teaser about a surprise, many assumed that the “blessing” would be a baby on the way. Well, the blessing they were referring to was a new show. “Pasensya sa mga na hopya, nalaman niyo rin,” he said.

Kim looked at her belly and caressed it as she said, “May baby, pero hindi po ngayon, may abs ako ngayon, pasensya na sa mga na prank. Natuwa kami ni Je kasi ang daming concerned. Bago ko nga i-post, nakalimutan ko sabihan daddy ko kasi nasa Saudi sila ng mama ko. Kaya after ko na-post, tinawagan ko agad to say what it is.”

Team A tackles the common issues, such as the usual complaints about in-laws in Filipino families but in a funny way.

“It is about a family, ang problema ng pamilya at paano nila ito malalagpasan, but good vibes,” Kim explained.

Come May, another sitcom is set to air on TV5. We were invited to the story conference of Sue Ramirez and Jake Cuenca’s third team-up, titled Jack and Jill sa Diamond Hills. TAPE, Inc. said that it is not an adaptation of the 1987 comedy movie of the same title. Sue and Jake’s sitcom has action and is a good project for the two who are coming from their hard-hitting Eros (Jake) and Venus (Sue) roles in ABS-CBN’s Iron Heart.

Sue joked about seeing Jake too much because of work.

“Sobrang magiging close na talaga kami kahit ayaw namin, charing, hahaha!” she added. “Actually, ang dami ngang kinikilig kay Eros and Venus sa Iron Heart and I am excited for everyone to see them in a different light in Jack and Jill.”

Jake shared, “Kailan lang kami nagkakilala ni Sue, but we’re able to show different sides through these different roles.”

Joining them in the upcoming show are Gardo Versoza, Ara Mina, Jai Ho, Hershey Neri and Dj Onse.
