Click, Like, Share Season 2 stars oppose cancel culture because it’s “toxic” and “unhealthy” and they would rather promote “character development” of a person through social media. Maymay Entrata, Janella Salvador, Barbie Imperial, Tony Labrusca and Jerome Ponce expressed their views on it during an online media conference for the series.

Cancel culture, as defined by Cambridge Dictionary, is “a way of behaving in a society or group, especially on social media, in which it is common to completely reject and stop supporting someone because they have said or done something that offends you.”

Tony considered that cancel culture is unhealthy. “We’re all human eh. Even if you see somebody in showbiz who might be acting a little problematic, it’s not in my position to be cancelling this person,” he said. “The idea of cancel culture, for me, with my core values, is so toxic and based on hate. I don’t support that movement. I don’t think it’s appropriate.”

Janella echoed, “I don’t believe in cancel culture din. I believe in character development. Kung meron mang nagawa yung isang tao, pwede naman i-call out. Pwede naman i-correct. Huwag naman i-cancel kasi lahat tayo pwede magbago.”

Maymay also agreed with co-stars by saying, “Nalulungkot lang ako kapag may nakita silang mali agad, naka-cancel na sila.” “I don’t want to judge people who make mistakes. Para maiwasan yung pag-huhusga, you need to make an effort to know and understand that person. Everybody goes through something. Like what Janella said, everyone has a chance to change for the better. We just need to be aware of our mistakes for us to learn.”

Jerome agreed and admitted that, at some point, he canceled someone. “Pero ako kasi bilang tao, lahat tayo, we have our own opinion. Lahat tayo may sariling tama at mali sa bawat isa. Walang general na, ‘Ito ang tama at ito ang mali.’”

What he has learned from the showbiz industry, Jerome said, is, “Ang tinuro kasi sa akin mali man siya o tama, tahimik ka na lang. Nasa sa’yo na yun kung ita-tama mo o ima-mali mo.”

Barbie said that she doesn’t support cancel culture because it entails judging a person because of the latter’s flaws. As a matter of fact, everyone makes mistakes, the young actress added.

“Ako din, marami din akong nagawa na pagkaka-mali,” she furthered. “But it doesn’t mean that a person cannot change for the better. ‘Tsaka ang lungkot ng mundo na parang marami kayong tao na tina-try niyong hilahin pababa yung isang personalidad. Pwede naman iparating dun sa tao na dapat mag-bago siya na hindi siya sobrang hinihila pababa.”

The Kapamilya artists also talked about the pros and cons of social media.

Barbie shared she used to reply to posts or comments about her on social media.

“Pero ngayon dahil sa pandemic, parang andami na ng bagay na nakaka-stress,” she said. “May mga lumalabas na mga isyung ganyan or bagay about me. If alam ko naman na hindi totoo, parang nakakatamad na ipagtanggol sarili mo lalo alam mo na hindi naman lahat mag-a-agree sa’yo.”

She would rather choose “peace” rather than confront the “stress in the online world,” in her words, “Pinipili ko na lang yung mga laban na gusto kong labanan.”

Jerome, on the other hand, cited social media as a platform for sharing updates about one’s life events, especially for showbiz personalities like them. “Matutuwa yung mga tao na interested sa life namin at sa pinag-kakaabalahan namin,” he shared. “Ang sarap din kasi sa feeling na magiging proud ka kung ano yung ginagawa mo sa life mo, sino kasama mo at kung ano yung naipundar mo.”

The cons, however, include “dealing with bashers which is out of your control,” he said. “Minsan mas okay na hindi mo na lang pansinin talaga. Kesa aawayin mo pa and all kasi sabi nga nila, hindi naman matatama ang isang mali kung gagawin mo pa ng mali.”

Meanwhile, Maymay was asked if it’s fair to cancel celebrities because of their political beliefs. Her answer was a solid no. “May iba’t iba tayong choices at siguro one way para maiwasan yung cancel culture lalo na kami na showbiz people ay respeto,” she said.

She also encouraged the youth to register and vote in 2022 elections.

Maymay starred in the first episode of Click, Like, Share Season 2, called Lurker, which was streamed last Sept. 3.

Tony is the lead actor in the second episode, Altered, airing on Sept. 10, while Jerome and Barbie will star in the third episode, Found, on Sept. 17 and Janella is in the fourth episode, Barter on Sept. 24.

The new episodes of the anthology series also star Mutya Orquia, Louise Abuel, Sherry Lara, Franco Daza, Paolo Gumabao, Kate Alejandrino, Malou Crisologo and Renz Aguilar.

Click, Like, Share Season 2 streams on iWantTFC Friday nights at 8, two days before it airs on Kapamilya Channel, Kapamilya Online Live and A2Z Sunday nights at 8:30.
