Jackie Chan brings more action to online shopping

E-commerce platform Shopee revealed on Thursday its newest brand ambassador-international superstar Jackie Chan.

“I enjoy putting a smile on people’s faces. It’s exciting to partner with Shopee to celebrate the action-packed year-end festival and bring more joy to my fans and Shopee users,” said the 67-year-old actor and director in a statement.

He added that he had “a lot of fun” working with Shopee. “I think people of all ages will enjoy the activities and content that we have prepared together. I hope everyone can join us to make the year-end shopping season a memorable one.”

The Hollywood star can be seen dancing the Shopee shake and using the Shopee application in their latest video campaign. He also showed his martial arts skills and spoke in Tagalog, “Bili na sa Shopee. Salamat Shopee.”

Netizens were also thrilled to see the legendary Jackie on the online ad.

“Nakakatuwa po bilang Pinoy. Lodi (idol) natin yan si Jackie Chan. Very surprising. Marami matutuwa,” a netizen commented on YouTube after watching the campaign video.

A user said, “I’m so loving this ad! Love you, Jackie! Your dance is awesome and entertaining!”

“I can’t believe I see Jackie Chan here. Amazing! Love it!” one post read.

“My super favorite superstar! The best sa lahat ng Shopee model!” another comment said.

The e-commerce platform launched its year-end shopping season starting with its signature 9.9 Super Shopping Day and welcomed Jackie as their new celebrity endorser. He will be featured in a range of activities across Shopee’s end of year shopping festivals.

“The pandemic continues to affect both individuals and businesses. As communities continue to live, work, shop, and play from home, we have stepped up our efforts to ensure users have access to their daily essentials through our shopping campaigns,” said Martin Yun, director of Shopee Philippines.

They also aim to support local businesses that were greatly affected by the pandemic. “We are also committed to supporting local MSMEs and have launched a series of support initiatives as well as Support Local campaigns to generate greater visibility and enable users to easily identify and support local businesses. We look forward to bringing some joy to our local communities during this year-end season,” added Martin.

Likewise, Shopee gave away prizes for the raffle, quiz and social media contest portions during the online media event.

Singer-songwriter Kitchie Nadal entertained the press with her hits Same Ground, Huwag na Huwag Mong Sasabihin and Bulong during the program.

Shoppers can enjoy free shipping with no minimum spend, 20 percent cashback, and Daily P1 Deals in 9.9 Super Shopping Day. They will also have Mega Midnight Sale, Shopee Mall Big Brand Discounts and Support Local feature.

Users can catch Jackie on Shopee Live and join games to win giveaways and cash prizes during the 9.9 Super Shopping Day TV Special via GMA 7 and Shopee Live this Sept. 9. Fans can also expect performances from a leading K-pop group.

In 2018, Shopee tapped South Korean girl group Blackpink as its first-ever regional brand ambassador followed by global football icon Cristiano Ronaldo in 2019.

Shopee Philippines has previously tapped big names in the showbiz industry as brand ambassadors, including actress Anne Curtis, singer Jose Mari Chan, singer and actress Sarah Geronimo, influencer Alysza Aldam, actress and TV personality Kris Aquino, host and comedian Willie Revillame and host and vlogger Alex Gonzaga. Boxer and Senator Manny Pacquiao was also named as brand ambassador in 2019. Shopee pioneered the first 9.9 Super Shopping Day in 2016. The 9.9 Super Shopping Day runs from Aug. 20 to Sept. 9.
