MANILA, Philippines — Although he failed to make it in the Top 12, senatorial candidate Freddie Aguilar thanked everyone who voted for him.

“TAPOS NA HO ANG ELEKSYON AT KAHIT DI NAGWAGI ANG ATING BAYANIHAN (iba pa rin talaga pag marami kang pera ) SANA KALIMUTAN NA NATIN ANG MGA TAMPUHAN NATIN DAHIL SA HINDI NAGING PAREHO ANG MGA PINILI NATING SUPORTAHAN,” the folk singer told his supporters in a Facebook post.

He also called on Filipinos to unite, no matter what political colors they don.

“TANDAAN HO NATIN NA ANG TUNAY NA KULAY NATIN ( hindi pula at hindi dilaw ) AY ANG KULAY NG WATAWAT NATIN… MAGTULUNGAN HO TAYO DAHIL ANG SUSI NG TAGUMPAY AY ANG PAGKAKAISA NATIN PARA SABAY SABAY NATING ISULONG ANG BAYAN NATIN TUNGO SA PANGARAP NATING KAUNLARAN! AT TULOY TULOY NA PAGBABAGO… MABUHAY ANG MGA PILIPINO NA TUNAY AT HINDI MATATAWARAN ANG PAGMAMAHAL SA ATING INANG BAYAN.”

He said he had “no regrets” for running for senator.

“It was the ordinary people that made me run, we did our best but the bayanihan is not enough. No regrets though coz our conscience is clear,” he declared in another Facebook post.

The post showed a screenshot of ABS-CBN’s partial and unofficial results indicating Freddie garnered over two million votes, putting him at the 30th spot in the senatorial race as of May 14.

He placed in the 23rd to 32nd bracket in the pre-senatorial election survey released by Pulse Asia last year.

In another post, the 66-year-old musician thanked his 22-year-old wife for helping him throughout the campaign.

“ANG TAONG BUONG BUO ANG TIWALA SA AKING KAKAYAHAN AT NANATILING NAKATAYO SA TABI KO MULA UMPISA HANGGANG NGAYON, KASAMA SA BAWAT LUHA NA DALA NG AWA SA ATING MGA KAPOS PALAD NA KABABAYAN, SYANG TUNAY NA NAKAKASAKSI NG LAHAT, MARAMING MARAMING SALAMAT SA AKING PINAKAMAMAHAL NA MISIS.”

Touted as President Rodrigo Duterte’s “favorite singer,” the composer and performer behind pop songs such as “Anak,” “Magdalena,” "Estudyante Blues" and "Ipaglalaban Ko” was the second to file his certificate of candidacy at the Commission on Elections head office in October last year.

“After 40 years, nakumbinsi na nila ako tumakbo sa Senado. Matagal na nila akong kinukumbinsi dahil daw sa aking mga advocacy sa kanta ko at ‘yun nagpapayag sa akin ay mga ordinaryong mamamayan,” he explained.
