Hope for cancer patients

Hope for cancer patients
Dr. Robert Janson-Müller and Dr. Karl Aigner

I recently received a letter from my good friend Joey Santos, who promotes an oncology clinic based in Germany. According to Joey, about 90 percent of the oncology center’s patients are beyond treatment and 80 percent of these patients have successfully reduced the tumor’s size, thus, extending their life by several years. “It’s a good option for patients who are in Stage 4 condition,” he wrote.

Joey is referring to Medias Klinikum, an independent private clinic that has been successful in treating cancers of the breast, head and neck, lungs, pancreas, liver, bladder and stomach as well as soft tissue sarcomas and melanomas. Patients who have expended all sorts of therapeutic options in their ailments have found a new hope in the clinic.

Medias Klinikum takes pride in its list of big-time clients. According to its CEO Giuseppe Zavattieri, “We already treated three princes from the Royal Family of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the wife of one of the secretaries of the brother of the king of UAE, the father of a famous German music star, a manager of a very famous German music star, and some politicians.”

The clinic guarantees its patients quality medical service with its brilliant team composed of internationally experienced oncology specialists who are supplemented by specialists from other areas of expertise, excellent nursing staff and top-quality technical equipment.

Medias Klinikum’s medical team is led by Prof. Dr. med. Karl Aigner, who is one of the world’s pioneers in the field of regional chemotherapy with over 30 years of experience in this treatment method; Emir Selak (senior physician), Dr. med. Sabine Gailhofer (senior physician), Kornelia Aigner (certified biologist), Dr. Karl Steinbach (director of Anaesthesia and Pain Therapy), and Dr med. Hans-Ulrich Mayr (internist).

The clinic specializes in regional chemotherapy, oncological surgery, immunotherapy, hyperthermia and pain therapy. Regional chemotherapy (RCT) is chemotherapy that is limited to one region of the body or to one organ. The medication (a cytostatic or chemotherapeutic agent) is administered into the arteries (blood vessels) which supply the tumor or the tumor region with blood.

Its oncological surgery is founded on experience-related and research-proven basic principles for operating on cancerous tumors such as the no touch isolation technique, tumor extraction without contamination, and low-complication surgery, among others.

Meanwhile, immunotherapy is being offered according to the latest scientific knowledge. Through the clinic’s targeted and personalized immunotherapy, the tumor is attacked and the healthy tissue is conserved. At Medias Klinikum Burghausen, immunotherapy is cell based, it is specific to the body’s own tumor, and almost free of side effects.

There are two hyperthermia procedures being performed at Medias Klinikum: Deep hyperthermia and Whole-body hyperthermia. According to the clinic’s website, “using deep hyperthermia, we raise the temperature of the tumour region above 43°C. This causes direct destruction of tumour tissue as a result of thermal damage. In whole-body hyperthermia, the entire body is warmed in a hyperthermia bed. A temperature of 38 to 39°C results in increased circulation in the tumour due to dilation (expansion) of the tumour vessels. Increased circulation improves the blood supply to the tumour, and more cytostatic agent is thus brought to the site during regional chemotherapy.”

The greatest priority in treating cancer is the treatment and prevention of pain. The clinic treats patients suffering from pain symptoms such as musculoskeletal and soft tissue pain (e.g. chronic back pain), head and facial pain (e.g. migraine, trigeminal neuralgia), chronic abdominal and visceral pain, among others.

Medias Klinkum GmbH & Co. KG is at Krankenhausstraße 3a, D-84489 Burghausen. It is located in Bavaria, on the Salzach in Burghausen. For inquiries, e-mail at medias-klinikum.de or call 08677/9160-0 or send a fax at 08677/9160-120.

Speaking of Germany, it has now become a famous medical and wellness destination. A few years ago, I had the opportunity to meet Dr. med Robert Janson-Müller whose family specializes in live cell therapy. (The Swiss doctor Prof. Paul Niehans pioneered the method of injecting cells originating from animal organs intramuscular into patients in 1931. He is considered as the founder of live cell therapy.) His grandfather, Dr. Philipp Janson, was one of the first doctors to introduce the method in Germany in 1949. His father, Dr. Wolfgang Janson-Müller, developed into perfection the original live cell therapy over the next 35 years which he shared with his son.

Local celebrities have sought the expertise of Dr. Müller, as well as former and current congressmen and politicians. On the global front, one of the main cast of the hit series Desperate Housewives and an Indonesian singer have also visited the clinic.

It is interesting to learn how live cell therapy works. Cell therapy uses organs from sheep fetuses that are in the last stage of their development inside the womb. Fetal cells are ideal since they are easier to obtain sterile and their minimal allergizing characteristics make them more suitable for patients.

Donor animals are under strict veterinary control. They are in quarantine for six weeks before use. The herd is separated along the female line for over four decades to eliminate the risk of transmitting tuberculosis or scrapie (brain disorder). There are no chemical or pharmacological substances added while obtaining and processing the organ tissue. Sterility is accomplished through preventive measures.

The course of treatment with Dr. Müller takes four days at Hotel Prinzregent in Edenkoben, Germany. Check-in time on the day of arrival at the clinic is between 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Hotel Prinzregent/Luitpold is located at Unter dem Kloster 1, D-67480 Edenkoben. For inquiries, call +49 (0)89 6519627, e-mail at [email protected] or check the website www.janson-mueller.de.
