Kris Aquino to Mocha: You win

MANILA, Philippines — In a live video on the afternoon of June 6, movie star Kris Aquino has aired her response to Presidential Communications Group Assistant Secretary for Social Media Esther Margaux "Mocha" Uson’s video, uploaded earlier on June 6, in response to Kris’s challenge for a duel or debate.

Before commenting on Mocha’s latest video, Kris first showed Mocha’s video.

“You have a point, it’s not about me. It’s about my father. But you have to accept this fact. Laman at dugo n’ya ako, at karapatan ko na magsalita para sa kanya,” Kris said.

“When you say that it is not about me, I’m sorry. When it is about my mother, when it’s about my father, it’s about me. Kahit sinong anak, kahit sinong nanonood sa’kin ngayon, hate man nila ‘ko… I think lahat mag-aagree kahit anong kulay natin na mahal natin mga magulang natin.”

Kris also disagrees with Mocha’s belief that the kiss was what a leader does.

“Sinabi mo gawain lang ito ng isang lider… Sinong humalik? Ganon ka-simple. I will not add further into that dahil ‘di ko kagalit si Presidente Duterte. ‘Di po ako nakisawsaw sa kahit anong issue na ibinabatikos sa kanya.”

No apologies

Kris also showed on her live video a footage of Presidential Special Assistant Christopher Lawrence "Bong" Go’s press conference touching on the issue.

“Ang sabi ni Mocha sa’kin, ang purpose n’ya for the video is to show that both leaders are well-loved. Lapitin sila sa masa at sa mga kapwa Pilipino,” Go said in the clip.

“Ang sabi namin, iba ang emosyon ni Kris dun sa video. Nasaktan s’ya kasi naalala n’ya ‘yung pagkamatay ng kanyang mga magulang. Hindi man lang n’ya nayakap ng mga huling sandali. Sabi ko, intindihin na lang natin si Kris Aquino.”

Go assured that Mocha “will also apologize.” “Sumang-ayon naman s’ya samin ni Pangulong Duterte sa pag-sorry po.”

According to Kris, Go’s last line, about Mocha making an apology, is very important for her.

“Klarong-klaro naman po ‘di ba? ‘Yung video na napanood natin, walang ka-sorry sorry,” Kris fretted. “’Yung kanang kamay ng president, s’ya mismo nagawang mag-sorry. Pero s’ya ‘di s’ya mag-sorry. Galit pa.”

In a video shot by The STAR, Mocha was asked for her reaction to Kris’s video.

“Ininstant live naman po si Ma’am Kris doon. ‘Yun po ‘yung statement sa social media,” she told reporters.

When asked if she needs to apologize, Uson again said: “Nandoon po yung statement ko po sa Mocha Uson Blog po… May statement na po ako sa aking Facebook page po. Nandun na po lahat ng kailangang malaman.”

The statement Uson was referring to, besides a Facebook live video, is a June 6 Facebook status that says, “With all due respect to everyone involved, I decline to apologize for the truth.”

‘You win’

According to Kris, even if she is the aggrieved party, she is the one who tried to reach out. “Ikaw na yung binangga pero ikaw pa ung nagaabot ng kamay dahil gusto mo maayos ito. Isa lang gusto natin, mapabuti natin ang Pilipinas, ang buhay ng bawat Pilipino.”

She said, that because she wants to iron things out, she would accept defeat.

“Mocha you win. You win because you hurt me and I think that’s what you want. Nanalo ka dahil patuloy mong inapak-apakan ang pagkatao, ang alaala ng dalawang taong pinakamamahal ko. ‘Yung sinabi kong di kita uurungan, narealize ko bakit pa… Kahit anong pakita kong kabutihan…”

Joining politics?

Because of what happened, Kris said in the video that she realized she needs to have “more voice” on issues like this.

“I have contracts that prevent me from running… but maybe you need a voice… I will pray about what is best for me to do. Pero baka mas maganda na hindi ako humingi ng posisyon para patuloy n’yo ko pakinggan kasi pag naging parte ako ng senado maging tulad lang ako nila. Patay patay tayo.”

‘Sense of self-entitlement’

In the video, Kris admitted that she asked Go to do something  for her.

In response, Mocha shared a live video shot by blogger Sass Rogando Sasot of the Facebook page For the Motherland.

According to Sasot, while she understands that Kris has the right to express herself, she has no right to “power trip” by asking a favor from a public official like Go .

“’Yung ginawa ni Kris Aquino it crossed the line… Si Kris Aquino lagi n’yang binibida mom and dad democracy… freedom of speech… Ikaw Kris, you need to learn your lesson. You have to end your sense of entitlement. We don’t owe you anything. What we are experiencing is the product of our parents and of our own. Wala kaming utang sa inyo, so don’t treat the Philippines as if it’s your house. It’s not!” said Sass.

“Ikaw, Kris Aquino, okay lang kasi na you’re hurt, you got offended, etcetera, pero you, calling on Bong Go, a public official… ‘Yung ginagawa mong pagtawag kay Bong Go, it’s part of your evil machination, it’s part of your evil tactic para ‘yan si Mocha you can silence her.

I could respect that you’re offended and I could respect your right that you were offended… Pero girl, you don’t have the right not to be offended. Walang ganyang karapatan. You know, you should have respected Mocha’s freedom of speech no matter how it offended you because that is the only way you could honor that human rights na ang sabi mo ang freedom of speech ang isa sa pinakamaganda, pinaka-importante na sinabi mong pinagsacrifisan ng iyong parents, di ba?”

Sasot believes the favor Kris asked Go is to silence Mocha. She also suggested that Kris might be doing some noise for an upcoming movie.

“Alam naman nating gusto mong patahimikin ‘yang si Mocha kasi nasaktan ka, nasira ‘yang myth surrounding your parents at isang Mocha Uson lang ang nakagawa sa’yo n’yan. At malapit na rin ‘yung pelikula, gusto mo lang magsalita.”

Since Go will run for a position in senate, Sasot asked him for commitment to freedom of speech to say “whatever we like without being subjected to the power-trippings of the likes of Kris Aquino.”

According to her, total freedom of speech means being able to say anything to anyone dead or alive, especially those who are public figures.

“Your mother and father are public figures, they deserve criticism especially now that things that have long been hidden from us are now being uncovered.”

Marcoses mentioned

Like other netizens who commented on both Kris’s and Mocha’s videos and posts, Sasot compared Kris to the Marcoses.

“‘Yung kabilang pamilya na kaaway n’yo, we have said everything to them, but we never heard them do an FB and annoy us with this drama… People in power like you should have used your influence and power in a more restraint way,” said Sasot.

“Okay lang ‘yung you’re expressing your side, pero ‘yung you have to go out of your way to talk to a public official. We all know naman kung anong gusto mong pagawa kay Bong Go, it has an intense chilling effect against all of us… Anong mangyayari kung kami naman ang magcricriticize? What message are you sending?”

For Sasot, Mocha did not do anything wrong.

“Ano bang ginawa ni Mochang mali? She didn’t do anything wrong that violated the laws of the Philippines…  She’s just expressing her freedom of speech in support of the president that she thinks will usher the Philippines to a new chapter.”

According to Sasot, Kris should stop thinking that she and her family are untouchables.

“Now, if Kris Aquino is offended, sure. But for her to go to you, sir, and we all know what she wants to do and that is to silence Mocha Uson, that’s foul. That’s already using her power and influence… na ‘yung tatay at nanay n’ya ay di pwedeng icriticize at di pwedeng isubject sa ganyang mga usapan. Ano ba yang mga tatay at nanay nya? Dyos ba yang mga yan? Dyos ba yung parents mo Kris?”
