Filipino singer Bailey May named official member of global pop group

MANILA, Philippines — Filipino-British singer, actor, and Internet sensation Bailey May has been officially announced as one of the “14 exceptional artists from 14 different countries" that comprise the international pop group Now United, formed by “American Idol” and "So You Think You Can Dance" creator and Spice Girls manager Simon Fuller.

After months of boot camp training and workshops in Los Angeles, California with aspirants from all over the world, Bailey has been chosen as the only Filipino member of the global sing-and-dance group, which will be launched in March 2018.

Other Filipino artists choasen as finalists in the search for Now United members include Bailey’s Bailona love team partner Ylona Garcia, GirlTrends’ Jane de Leon, and AC Bonifacio.

Among those who will be with Bailey in Now United are Lamar Morris from the United Kingdom; Josh Beauchamp from Canada; Hina Khan from Japan; Heyoon Jeong from South Korea; Any from Brazil; and Sofya Plotnikova from Russia.

Official press statement from Now United reveals that its members are between the ages of 14 to 19 years old, composed of both boys and girls who can sing and dance.

Last August, Bailey had the chance to meet American pop icon Miley Cyrus at the boot camp.

As an official member of Now United, Bailey will work with Grammy Award winner RedOne, composer for Lady Gaga, Michael Jackson, and Shakira, among others. RedOne is "fully committed" to write Now United's first album. 

Likewise, the pop group will be working with top influential choreographers Kyle Hanagami and WildaBeast.

Bailey first came to fame as an Internet sensation after he posted videos showing him singing the hits of different artists, including those by fellow Filipino heartthrob and recording star Daniel Padilla.

In 2015, Bailey won as third runner-up in ABS-CBN’s reality TV show, “Pinoy Big Brother: 737.”

Since then, Bailey has become a Star Magic talent and will continue to be co-managed by ABS-CBN even as he becomes a member of Now United.

With over 500 number one singles under his belt and as one of the most successful executive producers of all time, Simon Fuller is expected to also make Now United a global sensation that will define a generation, with Bailey representing the creativity and innate musicality of Filipinos.

"Simon is creating a music band but more importantly, a global brand," the group's official statement says.

Collectively, the band and the creative team have reportedly reached over 13 million followers on Instagram, Snapchat, Weibo, Musical.ly, Facebook and Twitter
