Miho all set for first teleserye
Pinoy Big Brother 737 Big Winner Miho Nishida’s ability to adjust has served her well, and has helped her appreciate the opportunities being afforded her, including her upcoming series with Tommy Esguera

Pinoy Big Brother 737 Big Winner Miho Nishida’s life has been one major adjustment after another.

?The first adjustment came when she got pregnant as a teenager. She was 16 or 17 at the time, and before it happened she was much like every other girl her age. She was a dreamer who aspired to become an international model someday. But she had to adjust to a new way of life when her daughter Aimi was born.

?“My friends were enjoying their teenage life and here I was saddled with responsibilities of being a mom. Sometimes, my mother would tell me to go out with friends. But since Aimi was born, she has always been my top priority,” says Miho.

?Miho had to adjust again when she auditioned for and won a place in Pinoy Big Brother 737. Her mother, whose biggest dream was to see her daughter become someone others would look up to, encouraged her to audition. To please her, Miho —who was already living in Japan then — trooped to Tokyo where the auditions were being held and lined up with nearly a hundred other people, all of whom were hoping to get a shot at fame and fortune. Such things weren’t on Miho’s mind, mainly because she had no idea what the show was all about or how it could change her life.

?“I didn’t get to watch Pinoy Big Brother because I was always at work. All I know was, there are too many people who wanted to be inside Big Brother’s house. When Big Brother got me, I felt so happy and scared at the same tine. The only life I know was in Japan with my family,” she says.

?Miho got scared because she realized she would have to live away from her family for the first time now that she was part of the show. She wasn’t used to that at all. But Miho reached deep inside herself to find the motivation she needed to adjust her way of thinking. “It was so hard being away from Aimi pero naisip ko na panindigan na yung pinasok ko.”

?Miho found herself needing to make yet another adjustment when she was named the season’s Big Winner. Because of that achievement, not only did Miho become an instant celebrity with a strong following to her name, but she became a bona fide actress too. Miho was cast in the second season of Funny Ka, Pare Ko, a sitcom produced by Cine Mo, an ABS-CBN TV Plus-only cable channel.

“I’m very happy to be part of Funny Ka, Pare Ko and I got to work with ate Karla Estrada, kuya Bayani Agbayani and kuya Jayson Gainza. I enjoyed taping the show plus the cast and staff were kind and nice to me,” Miho says.

On Miho’s first taping day, she found it quite difficult to get into the swing of things. “Actually, in the beginning I felt so awkward. I could not deliver my lines. I was lost and I did not know what to do.”

Eventually Miho started nailing her scenes, which prompted her co-star Bayani to compliment her by comparing Miho to the late Maria Teresa Carlson, a talented comedienne. Buoyed by his encouragement, Miho is already looking forward to her first teleserye, in which she’ll be paired opposite her fellow Pinoy Big Brother 737 graduate and love interest Tommy Esguerra. “I am both excited and nervous.”

So far Miho’s ability to adjust has served her well, and has helped her appreciate the opportunities being a housemate has afforded her.

“I am enjoying every bit of what I do, now,” she adds. — With reports from Almed Garcia and Julian Mauricio
