Oro: More dissenting voices

MANILA, Philippines - The dog-slaughtering scene has been edited from Oro which, according to reports, has been pulled out of moviehouses even before the 2016 Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) ended last Saturday; while the producers have been banned from joining any film festival for one year.

Still, dissenting voices against that controversial scene continue, among them (all dog lovers):

  • Romy Suzara (left), film director: In the first place, why was the movie approved by the MTRCB (Movies & Television Review and Classification Board)? Weren’t all the eight official MMFF entries previewed by the MTRCB? The MTRCB group that approved Oro should also be sanctioned. What about the MMFF screening committee and the board of judges, why did they “overlook” that offensive scene?
  • Kathy Moran (center), managing editor of The STAR’s Lifestyle section:  The movie should be banned! And the awards returned…including Best Actress. I didn’t watch the movie kasi I was told about the cruelty to the dog even before the scene became a big issue.
  • Avel Bacudio (right), fashion designer: The dog is the most faithful of animals and would be much esteemed were it not so common. Our Lord God has made His greatest gifts the commonest.  Martin Luther
