12 memorable Christmas moments
MANILA, Philippines – Christmas films are probably the most popular themed movies. Although they’re in demand whenever the holiday season comes, viewers surely don’t get tired watching them over again. Even Christmas flicks from way back are still watched by many simply because it will feel more “Christmas-y” if you play them when the family gets together.
So, which one is your favorite Christmas movie scene? Here are 12 scenes that might just be on your list.
The Polar Express. A boy is picked up for a train ride that would take him to the most exciting journey ever. He meets a lot of different people and reaches the destination not knowing what to expect.
The effects and sounds of the film are just marvelous. Imagine watching it on 3D.
Memorable scene: The end part when the boy is about to see Santa Claus for himself.
Jingle All The Way. Two fathers try their best to make their kids happy. The problem is, they’re both going after the same toy and there’s only one available. What are they going to do?
Memorable scene: Of course, the part where both desperately think of ways to get the toy their sons want.
Edward Scissorhands. Although its story is not related to Christmas at all, the film gets associated with it because of the snow. In the film, it is told that Edward is the reason why there’s snow — and when there’s snow, there’s Christmas.
Memorable scene: The part where Edward carves a huge ice figure of the lead actress dancing.
A Christmas Carol. From books, animation to movies, A Christmas Carol has been remade time and again. It has pretty much become part of the Yuletide season. Who doesn’t know the story? A stingy old man who treats people badly has a strange dream on Christmas Eve. He then wakes up a changed man.
Memorable scene: When he starts to treat people nicely and celebrates Christmas again.
Home Alone. The movie is becoming a Christmas classic now. The first film and its sequel are the best. Who can ever forget the cute and smart boy Kevin who gets left alone in his home during the holidays and then travels to New York by himself after he gets separated accidentally from his family?
Memorable scenes: In Part 1, it is when Kevin is setting up all the booby traps for the intruders. In Part 2, it is when Kevin is at the Rockefeller Center and realizes that he really misses his family, especially his mom. The scene where Kevin sees his mom is truly touching.
Joyeux Noel. Based on the Christmas truce that happened during World War I in December 1914, the film shows how soldiers from different countries stop fighting to observe Christmas. It is such a wonder how powerful the birth of Christ is, bringing peace and love to everyone.
Memorable scene: When the soldiers are singing Christmas songs and sharing photos of their families to one another.
Elf. A man, who was adopted by an elf and grew up in the North Pole, decides he wants to find his parents. He journeys back to the human world and encounters different kinds of people, good and bad.
Memorable scene: When people gather and sing Santa Claus is Coming to Town to help Santa Claus.
Bridget Jones’s Diary. Bridget is in her 30s and she is determined to find Mr. Right. Her search brings her to two guys Daniel and Mark. Well, we all know who turns out to be the better one, but just like any ordinary girl, Bridget has her moments of confusion.
Memorable scene: Bridget and Mark meet at a Christmas gathering where Mark is wearing a funny-looking jumper.
Krampus. It may seem a bit off to include this semi-scary film on the list, but still it’s a Christmas movie. When a boy starts to hate Christmas, he unknowingly summons the so-called Shadow of Saint Nicholas. Now, he and his family are being haunted by it.
Memorable scene: When Max is negotiating with Krampus and willing to give up his life for his family.
Miracle on 34th Street. An old man who claims to be Santa Claus gets in trouble as he tries to prove that he is the real deal. As most people become doubtful, all he can hope is for those who believe him to stand for him.
Memorable scene: On Christmas Day, lead character Susan gets all her three wishes courtesy of Santa Claus a.k.a. Kris Kringle — don’t you just love it when your wishes are granted?
Die Hard 1 and 2. Everybody loves surprises, well, as long as they’re not John McClane. That’s because he always gets unwanted surprises. His Christmas is never a normal one but all ends well.
Memorable scenes: In Part 1, Holly punches an annoying reporter. In Part 2, in the last scene, John’s wife asks, “Why does this keep on happening to us?” then the song Let It Snow is played.
The Birth of Jesus films. The list wouldn’t be complete without including the reason for the season. No matter how many times people watch this kind of movie, it always brings that feeling of amazement and joy — it somehow becomes a reminder of the true meaning of Christmas.
Memorable scene: The birth of Christ in the manger and how everybody is just at peace and watching Him in awe.
