MOU signing and launching of infomercial

When we were invited to attend the launching of the new Movie and Television Review and Classification  Board (MTRCB) film and TV infomercial, we had no idea of what to expect.

We were told that this came about with the discovery that there were so many of us who had forgotten to protect the youth from the exposure to dangerous drugs, and the misunderstanding of what is right from what is wrong.

This is what had inspired the forming of the infomercial that would help hasten this new understanding.

The new infomercial included a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signing with theater operators and TV networks. The launch was attended by MTRCB chief  Eugenio “Toto” Villareal, as well as board members and co-chairpersons of the committee on infomercial Bibeth Orteza and Manet Dayrit. Also present  were Carlitos Siguion-Reyna, Mon Confiado and writer Erlito “Lilit” Reyes, who engaged in a discussion with the guests in making the infomercial.

The infomercial aims to empower and encourage parents to exercise greater vigilance in guiding their children on the materials to which they are exposed.

Another highlight of the launch was the strengthening of MTRCB’s partnership with the theater operators and Television networks to ensure their support and cooperation in exhibiting the infomercial in their respective medium.

As stakeholders and advocate in safeguarding the rights of children, we had been invited to be part of this undertaking.

Instituto Cervantes, FDCP honor 400th anniversary of Miguel de Cervantes with film series

To honor Miguel de Cervantes (who passed away 400 years ago), Instituto Cervantes, the Embassy of Spain and the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) held a series of films inspired by Cervantes’ life or writings recently at the FDCP Cinematheque in T.M. Kalaw, Ermita, Manila.

The event kicked off with an animation film directed by Cruz Delgado in 1997. Based on Cervantes’ classic novel, the animation was an adaptation of a TV series produced for Televisión Española and shown between 1979 and 1981.

The film series  continued with the showing of El caballero don Quijote (Gutiérrez Aragón, 2002). An exquisite film adaptation of  Cervantes’ classic, it is the story of a compulsive chivalry-novels reader who loses his sanity and starts believing to be a knight named Don Quixote de La Mancha.

Another film shown was Las gallinas de Cervantes (Alfredo Castellón, 1988). Directed by Marchena and Javier Rioyo in 2007, the documentary Quijote Rides Through Cinema concluded the film series. The docu is a journey to the Dismal Knight and his loyal Squire’s adventures in cinema.  

All films were shown in their original version in Spanish with English subtitles.
