"I'm very excited," she told reporters after her courtesy call with President Benigno Aquino III on Tuesday. "I see it as a compliment because they wouldn't trust me with a microphone if they didn't think that I could do well or speak."
She added, "I think that's a pretty good sign."
The 26-year-old beauty queen said she sees the gig as a opportunity to be recognized not just as Miss Universe but also as a Pinay.
"It's a great way of me connecting to more people, meeting new people and being recognized not just as Miss Universe, not just as Pia but also as a Filipina," Pia said.
Pia is the country for a series of activities, which began with a news conference on Sunday and will end with a special homecoming show at the Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City on Thursday.
