It’s a go for Ate Vi, but not for Macalintal

Ricky Lo - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines –  It’s official: Batangas Gov. Vilma Santos, now on her third and last term, will try to make a comeback in Lipa City where she started her political career 18 years ago where she was elected mayor in the May 1998 elections. But this time, she will run for representative of Lipa City which is the newly created sixth district of the Province of Batangas.

But election lawyer Romy Macalintal cleared rumors that he’s included in the senatorial slate under the team of Senators Grace Poe and Chiz Escudero

“I finally came to the realization that I am not meant to be a politician,” Romy told Funfare.

Romy personally accompanied Ate Vi yesterday when she filed her COC (Certificate of Candidacy) for representative before the Provincial Election Supervisor of the Province of Batangas at the Provincial Capitol. She was nominated by the Liberal Party as its official candidate for the said position.

Ate Vi accompanied other candidates of the Liberal Party in Lipa City and the Province of Batangas with her son, Lucky Manzano, showing full support for her mother’s candidacy.

Added Romy, “After very deep soul searching and intense prayer, I feel I was guided and enlightened by the Holy Spirit that I could also serve our country, as I have been serving our less fortunate brothers and sisters pursue their education through my radio programs where the entire proceeds of our radio advertisements directly go to the scholarship program of Mission Guided by Mary Foundation which now supports around 600 poor elementary and high school students. I have also decided to continue my sincere and full advocacy for the rights of my fellow senior citizens.”

Like ex-DOJ Sec. Leila de Lima and celebrity lawyer Lorna Kapunan, who are both running, Romy could have made a good senator. Sayang.
