Alden draws biggest Kapuso Day crowd in Cebu

MANILA, Philippines –  An estimated crowd of 15,000 in attendance cheered for Alden Richards in the recently-held Kapuso Fans Day Friday at Gaisano Island Mall Mactan in Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu.

Alden couldn’t help but be quite emotional with the warm reception of the Cebuanos. The actor shared, “I really felt the love of the Cebuanos. I just enjoyed every single moment of being there, seeing the smiles and hearing the cheers of all our Kapuso. Thank you so much for the support.”

Even if his flight was delayed, it didn’t stop the Cebuanos to meet Alden in the flesh, making the mall show the most-attended Kapuso Fans Day in Cebu, according to GMA regional TV officials. “Until now, I am still in awe at the number of people who went there to join the show and I believe it is by God’s grace that I made it to Cebu to make all our Kapuso happy,” Alden said. 

The other half of the phenomenal AlDub love team, Alden visited the Cebuanos to personally thank them for their unwavering support to Eat Bulaga’s Kalyeserye, where the actor shares a split-screen romance with Maine “Yaya Dub” Mendoza.

Alden sang his versions of Akin Ka na Lang by The Itchyworms, Can’t Find No Reason by Louie Heredia and the AlDub theme Thinking Out Loud by Ed Sheeran, making supporters go wild.

The fun didn’t stop as the Cebuanos participated in contests such as That’s My Bae, where male participants showcased their dance moves; and Dubsmash Like Yaya, where the females acted out scenes like Yaya Dub.

Alden also met the Cebu entertainment press wherein he said in the interview that he doesn’t mind the sacrifices, like lack of sleep, that came with being busy with work. He told The Freeman newspaper, “It doesn’t matter as long as I see the smile on people’s faces every time we do Kalyeserye, every time I do mall shows like this. Nakakakilabot.”

He added, “I’ve been to Cebu a lot of times, but this has been the most unimaginable thing. There were people atop their cars… at the barricade outside the venue, there were even more.”

According to Oliver Amoroso, GMA’s head for Regional Strategy and Business Development Division, “The viewers are always the main drivers of the Network’s success. The success of Eat Bulaga’s Kalyeserye is traced to the undying support of the Filipinos, including in particular, the Cebuanos. That is why our Kapuso stars, like Alden, will never hesitate to go the extra mile to personally extend their gratitude to the fans, who serve as the network’s biggest inspiration.”
