Is Kris Aquino in favor of divorce?

MANILA, Philippines – Kris Aquino is in favor of divorce, but was quick to clarify that she still believes and respects the sacrament of marriage.

Kris expressed her opinion about this controversial issue during the press con of her upcoming film "Etiquette for Mistresses" on Wednesday.

“I’m sorry. I’m a devout Catholic but I disagree with the point of view of the Church na ayaw ng divorce because I’ve through an annulment, I know how painful it is,” she said.

Kris’ marriage with basketball player James Yap was annulled in February 2012. It was her second marriage.

“Mahirap magmahal, masakit at kailangan mong balikan lahat ng issues na nakasakit at nakasira sa inyong dalawa. The truth, the children pay for it because the dirty linen is there at the court papers for them to read,” she added.

Despite this, the Queen of All Media said she still believes in marriage and that “may forever.” She mentioned seeing it from her parents who “went through hell but they stuck around for each other.”

“I think it’s about respect, about commitment and about love,” she added. “Kasi kung mahal mo ‘yong tao kahit naghihirap kayo, kahit may mga pagsubok na dadaanan n’yo, you still choose that person.”

In the end, Kris said that “marriage is a day-to-day choice and pinakaimportante do’n is the desire na paligayahin mo ang partner mo. Paano mo mapapaligaya ang partner mo? Be a good provider, be a nurturer, be there, be supportive, and have fidelity.”
