Derek admits breaking own heart in breakup with Solenn

MANILA, Philippines — "Ex With Benefits" star Derek Ramsay admitted he still loved Solenn Heussaff when they broke up.

Ramsay revealed a few details of his four-year relationship with the model-actress in an interview with Vice Ganda aired on ABS-CBN's "Gandang Gabi Vice" on Sunday night.

"There was a girl that I actually broke my own heart for," Derek told Vice. "It was just not the right time and I made decisions... I won't say the wrong decisions, but decisions that broke my heart."

Derek further explained: "Nakipag-break ako but in the process, I broke my heart doing [so]."

Derek said he had to leave the relationship because the intense love they had caused them to "bring the worst out of each other."

"For me, it was too much turmoil, I had to get out... Kahit na alam ko rin na mahal na mahal na mahal ko siya," Derek said, before admitting the girl was Solenn, who had yet to break out in the local showbiz industry at that time.

In an interview with STAR entertainment editor Ricky Lo in 2010, Solenn admitted she was the girl Derek left behind.

"Yes, I'm the one," confirmed Solenn in the report. "It was Derek who broke up with me."

The report noted that the couple went steady for four years, three years of which they spent apart. Solenn was pursuing a degree in fashion design in Paris, while Derek was in the Philippines busy with sports and modeling.
