Boyce Avenue & other Valentine shows

SOUNDS FAMILIAR - Baby A. Gil - The Philippine Star

Why is Boyce Avenue Spotify’s No. 1 most streamed international act in the Philippines? I think I know the answer. It is because they sing the hits and they have the videos to go with those songs on the Net. Name a song and you can bet that Boyce Avenue can do it in its own style that in some cases comes off better than the original.

And those songs can be anything because these guys sing practically everything, rock, hip-hop, oldies, etc. Take a look at some of their most popular covers: Adele, Rolling In The Deep and Set Fire To The Rain; Linkin Park’s Shadow Of The Day; Grenade by Bruno Mars; Teen-age Dream by Katy Perry; and Keep Holding On by Avril Lavigne.

Pinoys have always loved listening to hit songs. In a country like ours where rock gets mellowed and hip-hop is toned down and then dubbed acoustic, a talent like Boyce Avenue’s counts a lot. And those radio-friendly pop-rock covers are what the audience would be most looking forward to when the band performs at the Araneta Coliseum on Feb. 14. The show is the group’s first arena concert appearance in Manila.

Boyce Avenue uploaded its originals but it also included the videos where it performs covers of its favorite songs by other artists like Love Stoned by Justin Timberlake; Coldplay’s Viva La Vida; and Umbrella by Rihanna. The netizens’ reaction to the videos was mind-blowing. Boyce Avenue instantly became one of those new creations of the Internet, the one dubbed a YouTube sensation or as Teen Choice calls it, a Web Star.

As of this writing, the viewers of Boyce Avenue’s videos number a cool 1,000,000,000, while subscribers to their channel are now over 5,500,500. Boyce Avenue also has plenty of followers on Twitter and subscribers on Facebook, and probably also more on other sites to make up a solid digital fan base. These fans can be counted on to show up at Araneta on Valentine’s Day to finally be able to watch the group perform hit covers and original works live.

The show is Boyce Avenue Live in Manila 2015. Call Ticketnet at 911-5555 for tickets to Araneta, and 0932-6376185 or 0932-3494499 for tickets to the SMX Convention Center in Davao City.

Still on shows you might want to watch on Valentine’s Day. Here is good news for fans of Asia’s Queen of Songs Pilita Corrales and the group New Minstrels Divos and also for all those who want to celebrate Valentine’s Day in style in the Las Piñas area but would much rather stay away from the heavy vehicuIar traffic in Metro Manila. Here is the show created especially for you.

The famous Pilita, who can sing love songs like no other, and The New Minstrels Divos, who thrill with tunes like Cherish, Angel On My Shoulder, Seventh Dawn and others, will be performing in a very special concert on Feb. 14 at the beautiful Fernbrook Gardens in Daang Reyna, Vista City in Las Piñas. The show is titled Love Affair and it will surely be a memorable evening of romantic music, lush, peaceful surroundings and a tasty buffet dinner all for only P3,000 per person.

Call 710-8545 or 0917-8105654 for tickets.

I have good news, too, for fans of Zsa Zsa Padilla, who have not heard the Divine Diva perform in concert for quite a while.  She is back and ready for new beginnings and that is just what she titled her first solo concert in a long, long time. Zsa Zsa’s Beginnings show will be held at the Music Museum in Greenhills also on Valentine’s Day.

Guesting in Beginnings will be singer-composer Ogie Alcasid and actor Piolo Pascual. Call Ticketworld at 891-9999 for tickets.
