Backstreet Boys coming back May 5

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Backstreet Boys, acclaimed as the best-selling boy band of all time which dominated the music and recording industry from the early ’90s onwards, is coming to Manila for a major concert on May 5 at the Mall Of Asia (MOA) Arena in Pasay City.

The group is loved for its many hits like I Want It That Way, Quit Playing Games With My Heart, Everybody (Backstreet’s Back), As Long As You Love Me, Larger Than Life, Show Me The Meaning Of Being Lonely and Shape Of My Heart.

With over 130 million records sold worldwide, Backstreet Boys has left its mark in the music and recording industry as one of the world’s top-selling music artists.

Formed in 1993 in Orlando, Florida, Backstreet Boys first attracted worldwide attention with its self-titled debut international album (1996),  its second international album, Backstreet’s Back (1997)  and its debut album in the US.

On April 22, 2013, the multiple award-winning and Grammy-nominated group received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

In commemoration of its 20th anniversary in the music and recording industry, Backstreet Boys came out with a full-length movie documentary titled, Backstreet Boys: Show ‘Em What You’re Made Of.

The movie docu is a surprising and rewarding journey filmed over two years that delves into the extremes of fame, fortune, betrayal and renewal. It follows the band members as they share their lives with us and relive their journey together, revealing new and old tensions that need confronting and reliving.

The group has sold 130 million records worldwide and is recognized as the best-selling boy band in history. Not only have its first nine albums all debuted in the Top 10 on the Billboard Top 100, but have gone gold and platinum in 46 countries.

Backstreet Boys is the only group in Canadian history to have three consecutive diamond albums, commemorating sales of over 10 million records and it holds two diamond awards in the US.

The group also made history when its anticipated 11-week, 39-city 1999-2000 North American Millennium arena tour sold out within the first hour.

Backstreet Boys continues to be an essential figure in pop culture, receiving a star on the legendary Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2013.

“From 1992 to 2002, we were the biggest band in the world. No one thought it was going to be as big as it was,” says band member Brian Litrell, who goes on to say, “Then it just stopped. And what do you do when you’re a full-grown man in a boy band?”

Backstreet Boys Show ‘Em What You’re Made Of stars original band members Nick Carter, Howie Dorough, Brian Litrell, AJ McLean and Kevin Richardson, who also produced the film along with Mia Bays.

The film opened last Jan. 30 in theaters and video-on-demands throughout the US through Gravitas Ventures, to be followed by its release on Feb. 26 in the UK and Europe and on March 28 worldwide.

The docu will have its worldwide TV premiere as part of the Emmy Award-winning VH1 Rock Docs franchise scheduled to debut on VH1 in the Spring of 2015.

(Backstreet Boys Live In Manila 2015! is presented by Ovation Productions. Tickets will be available starting Feb. 15 at all SM Tickets outlets or online through www.smtickets.com.)
