The Penthouse Live reunion: The way they were

Not only was it a thrill to see the Concert King and Queen Martin Nievera and Pops Fernandez reunite on a concert stage last Dec. 12 at the PICC, it was even more so thrilling and nostalgic to see them side by side while they hosted the iconic TV musical variety show that began their careers — The Penthouse Live, one of the most beloved musical variety shows in the ’80s.

But what truly made this concert extra special  was seeing their weekly regulars bring back those memorable entertaining numbers that we were used to seeing week after week.

Produced by DSL Productions, it was stage director for the night, Rowell Santiago, thought of simply bringing back the concept-driven TV show in a way things were done back then in the ’80s, complete with canned laughter after every punch.

1. Martin and Pops relived the way things were done back on the steps of The Penthouse Live semblance of a set directed by Rowell.

2. Martin and Jackie Lou Blanco sang Friends In Love. Back in the ’80s, it was a known fact that they dated and became sweethearts before Pops came into the picture.

3. Pops, still the quintessential fashion icon, performed an ’80s medley and Gloria Estefan hits.

4. Jojo Alejar led The Tigers. Back then, he was the group’s heartthrob and to this day, he’s still got those cool moves. He also danced to Bruno Mars’ Treasure.

5. Nanette Inventor, a.k.a. Doña Buding wearing a Danilo Franco parol-inspired gown, updated her current status as the ultimate rich matron and exposed her relations with Novo Rich Aling Dionesya, Dra. Becki Belat and Janet “Nanette” Nafoolish.

6. Jamie Rivera, Zsa Zsa Padilla and Regine Velasquez-Alcasid lent their hit songs to Penthouse Live, where they started their careers as pop singers.

7. The Penthouse Dancers in a lively a cha-cha number, led by Sandy Hontiveros and Manolet Santos.

8. Ninang Buding tried to patch up the ex-couple Martin and Pops.
9. Martin sang with son Robin in Counting Stars.
