Gemini in Top 5 MMFF indie films

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Psycho thriller film Gemini has made it to the Top 5 indie films of the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF), which runs   until tomorrow, Dec. 24.

Gemini, which stars twin sisters Sheena and Brigitte McBride, falls under the MMFF New Wave Category and is now being shown at cinemas of Glorietta 4 in Makati and SM Megamall, Mandaluyong City.

Gemini is a story of a woman who is being tormented by her demons because of sins she and her twin committed years ago.

“This is a mind-boggling film that will make you think, so you better be ready,” said Gemini director Ato Bautista, also known for his films Cinco and Exchange.

Bautista and Shugo Praico wrote Gemini, while Rafael Salvador produced the film.

Passing the audition given late last year by the group of  Bautista, the McBride sisters showed their acting skills like professionals.

“We really prepared and gave our best for the film. It’s a big challenge,” said the duo who starred with Mon Confiado and Lance Raymundo.

The 21-year-old twins graduated from St. Benilde College of De La Salle University, with Brigitte finishing Diplomatic Affairs course and Sheena, Hotel and Restaurant Management. Both were school athletes before trying their hand in acting and attending Star Magic workshops.

Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) chief and MMFF overall chairman Francis Tolentino said the New Wave Category has come a long way five years after it was introduced in film industry.

“It has not only made a name for itself in independent films, but has also become an actively sought-out avenue for filmmakers to show their works. It has expanded to accommodate young students and animators eager to share their stories and find their own voice through the art of films,” said Tolentino during a dinner he hosted recently at Resorts World Manila.
