MANILA, Philippines – The Philippines’ Valerie Weigmann failed to make it in the semi-fnal round of this year’s Miss World pageant, which is currently being held in London.
Making it to the top 10 are Australia, Mexico, United States, Kenya, Hungary, Brazil, Guyana, England, South Africa and India.
Thailand makes it as part of the semi-finals as the pageant’s People’s Choice.
121 contestants joined this year’s pageant.
Valerie managed to reach the competition’s quarterfinals along with 24 other beauty queens.
An actress and TV host, Valerie previously said she hopes to follow the footsteps of Megan Young, who was crowned Miss World last year.
Megan is the country’s first ever Miss World titleholder. Beauty queens such as Ruffa Gutierrez (1993) and Gwendoline Ruais (2011) have previously made it to the pageant’s top five.
Valerie joins other Filipina beauty queens who came up short in winning the crown in their respective beauty pageants this year. Bianca Guidotti failed to make it in the top 10 of the 2014 Miss International pageant, while Yvethe Santiago placed in the top 20 of the 2014 Miss Supranational.
Kris Tiffany Janson was named second runner-up in the 2014 Miss Intercontinental.
Like Valerie, Bianca and Yvethe had to compete with fellow Filipinas as the reigning titleholder of their pageant; Bea Rose Santiago is Miss International 2013, while Mutya Datu is Miss Supranational 2013.
