Winning acting awards still matters, says Coco Martin

Joyce Jimenez - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - After a number of television shows and mainstream movies, Coco Martin said winning awards still matters for him.

"Kasi kumbaga iyon 'yong bunga ng talagang pinaghirapan mo e," he said during the presscon of his 2014 Metro Manila Film Festival entry "Feng Shui 2."

“'Yong business side sa simula lang 'yon, e, habang hindi pa binubuo 'yong proyekto. Pero during the process, naglu-look forward ka na as an actor na sana 'yong pelikulang 'to may kahantungan,” he said.

He also recalled the days when he was still doing independent films, when his fulfilment comes from winning an acting award, if the movie will win awards and be able to compete internationally.

So far he has won almost 30 acting awards, the most recent being the best actor award for his performance in “Ikaw Lamang” at the 28th PMPC Star Awards for Television.

Meanwhile, starring with Coco in “Feng Shui 2” is Kris Aquino and Cherrie Pie Picache.

After working on two seasons of “Ikaw Lamang,” the Kapamilya actor has been close with Cherrie Pie, who recently lost her mother who was killed when their house was robbed last September.

Although Cherrie Pie has been professional and continued working on the film, Coco said everyone could still see the pain she’s going through.

“Nakikita namin na emotional siya, do'n namin nakikita 'yong kahit katiting, may pinagdadaanan siya,” he said. To show their moral support to the actress, they've given her the time to grieve the death of her mother.
