27th Aliw Awards set for Dec. 1

MANILA, Philippines - Aliw Awards Foundation, Inc. (AAFI) founding president Alice Reyes recently announced the finalists for the 27th Annual Aliw Awards at a presscon held at Gerry’s Grill in Quezon City.

This year’s awards presentation will be held at Resorts World Manila on Dec. 1 and will be aired on ABS-CBN on Jan. 4. Reyes recalled that the first Aliw Awards Night was held at Philamlife in 1977, in which Pilita Corrales was named the first Entertainer of the Year. Pilita, 2012 Entertainer of the Year Lisa Macuja and 2013 Entertainer of the Year Dulce topbill the list of performers.

Other performers are Jed Madela, John Lesaca, Sitti, Mitoy Yonting, Noel Cabangon, Robert Seña, Isay Alvarez, Abra, Angelos, Power Dance, Gerald Santos, Beverley Salviejo, Tanghalang SLU of Baguio City and the cast of Rak of Aegis.

To be elevated to Aliw’s Hall of Fame are Jon Santos, Salviejo and the Halili-Cruz Dancers. Lifetime Achievement awardees are Boy Abunda, Lea Salonga, Baby Barredo and John Lesaca. Discovery of the Year is Missy Elizalde.

AAFI is a non-stock, non-profit private organization.

Aside from Reyes, the officers of the AAFI are Brian Lu, first VP; Frank Rivera, second VP; Tess Tan, secretary; Francia Conrado, treasurer; and Sonny Valencia, PRO. Trustees are Dennis Aguilar, Leonardo Belen, Efren Montano, Angelo Eloy Padua, Len Santos and Art Tapalla. Auditor is Jose Dadulla Jr.

Reyes also extended an invitation to all the finalists to attend the event at Resorts World Manila.

“I hope they will honor us with their presence because the Aliw Awards are for the live entertainers who bring so much joy to so many,” she said.
