DZMM bags award at ABU Prizes
MANILA, Philippines - DZMM Radyo Patrol Sais Trenta (DZMM 630 kHz and DZMM Teleradyo) bagged an award at the prestigious Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU) Prizes 2014 held recently in Macau.
ABS-CBN’s flagship radio station won in the News Reporting category at the ABU Prizes for its coverage of Supertyphoon Yolanda from Nov. 8 to 16 in 2013, beating radio stations from New Zealand (Radio New Zealand), China (RTPRC-China National Radio) and Iran (Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting).
DZMM preempted its regular programming for a week to deliver the latest information on the impact of Yolanda and give public service to typhoon survivors in the Visayas region.
DZMM anchors and Radyo Patrol reporters joined forces to gather and bring the most significant developments in Tacloban and other parts of Leyte and Samar (Visayas, Philippines) that were devastated by Yolanda, despite the dangers they encountered and the difficulties in communication.
The station also provided comprehensive reports on government actions on the calamity, as well as regular updates from PAGASA (Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration) and different government agencies to send help to the victims.
In the last two years, DZMM has been named a finalist in the said category at the ABU Prizes. In 2007, its Radyo Patrol Balita Alas Onse Y Media, now Radyo Patrol Balita Alas Dose, bagged the award for the category Radio News for its coverage of
Typhoon Reming that struck the Bicol region (Southern Luzon, Philippines).
ABU Prizes is the most prestigious award-giving body that recognizes different programs in the broadcasting industry in all of Asia Pacific.
DZMM 630 kHz and DZMM Teleradyo can be heard and seen worldwide via The Filipino Channel’s (TFC) platforms: Internet Protocol television or IPTV, satellite and official online service, TFC.tv. In the US, DZMM 630 can be heard via TFC’s satellite platform.
