Matrix’s Chairs of Change
MANILA, Philippines - Matrix recently brought to the Philippines for the first time its worldwide program called Chairs of Change that allows salon communities and stylists to make a difference. Mounted as a one-day event, Matrix has shown its commitment to the cause through the Matrix 8-Inch Cut for Cancer Challenge.
Matrix pooled in 50 hairstylists from David’s Salon who donated their time and expertise, as well as more than 400 Filipinas who took on the challenge of cutting off at least eight inches of their hair for the benefit of children with cancer under the care of Kythe Ateneo. Present during the event were (from left) L’Oréal Philippines Professional Products Division GM JP Thomassin, Matrix Cut for Cancer Challenge advocate Maxene Magalona, daughter of David’s Salon Owner David Charlton, Laura Charlton, Matrix Philippines business unit manager Edzen Lavides and Matrix Philippines product manager Elise Veloso.
What began as a cultural recognition that hairstylists are capable of creating positive change beyond the chair and into its own community has organically grown to a full-blown global movement which Matrix aptly calls Chairs of Change. Over 3,000 inches of hair were cut off during the one-day event which will be turned into high-quality medical wigs for children with cancer.
