The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Art 2 Art pays tribute to the late National Artist for Music Francisco Feliciano in its episode airing today, with Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) president and pianist Raul Sunico as resource person.

Produced by the Manila Broadcasting Company and hosted by Lisa Macuja, Art 2 Art is aired Sundays, 3:30 to 4 p.m., on DZRH (666 khz on the AM band), on cable television via RHTV and online through DZRH live streaming on www.dzrh.com.ph.

Regarded as one of the most important Filipino composers of his generation, Feliciano created more than 30 major works including La Loba Negra, Ashen Wings and Sikhay sa Kabila ng Paalam and a biographical piece on the hero Jose Abad Santos.

He was also recognized in the field of liturgical music, having created hundreds of liturgical pieces, mass settings, hymns and other sacred music. Feliciano established the Asian Institute for Liturgy and Music, a school for church musicians.

Feliciano was among those proclaimed as National Artist by the CCP and the National Commission for Culture and the Arts last June, but he passed away last Sept. 19 of cancer.
