The Generika way

DIRECT LINE - Boy Abunda - The Philippine Star

While walking around the village for my daily morning exercise, I had a chat with Tanya, a cousin of my neighbor, who is a nurse whose family is based in Cabantian, Davao City. She shared with me that her older sister was recently hospitalized due to diabetes and now needs maintenance medicine. Tanya lamented that she wasn’t able to visit her sister because of her job but she promised to help in the medical expenses. “Buti na lang, Kuya Boy, at may Generika branch sa may amin. With its MedPadala, I sent enough money for her medication needs. Generika has been a big help because with the expensive cost of medicine today, families with limited budget can now comply with a doctor’s prescription. I am working in a hospital so I know the dilemma of many patients when it comes to their health and finances,” she said.

I explained many times in the past that when people from Generika Drugstore offered me to be its brand ambassador, I had no second thoughts about accepting the offer because I believe every life is worth fighting for.

To continue serving the public, Generika introduces MedPadala-EGC, an electronic gift check that serves to purchase medicines at any Generika Drugstore branch nationwide. Filipinos working abroad and local residents who send medical allowance for their loved ones can now be assured that their hard-earned money is spent entirely in medicines.

Julien Bello, VP Generika Franchising Services Corp./Novelis, enthused, “We would like to thank our customers for their continuous patronage to Generika. We are also happy to inform them that we have launched an electronic gift certificate called MedPadala-EGC that aims to ensure that the medicine requirements of their loved ones will be provided for, and that the money sent to them will be used to buy medicines. We would like to invite everyone to visit any of our 500 branches nationwide and try MedPadala.”

MedPadala has several benefits: You can be sure that money is spent for medicines; instant redemption at any Generika branch; there is no need to consume the entire amount in a single transaction — you can use it until you consume the entire amount; there is no minimum purchase required; senior citizen’s discount still applies for SC purchase at Generika provided that they present the necessary documents such as doctors prescription, Senior Citizen ID, and SC booklet; there is no expiration date; and it is secure and easy.

MedPadala-EGC is available in over 500 Generika Drugstore branches nationwide (P100 to P2,500 available denomination); at www.medpadala.com.ph (P500 to P5,000 available denomination) which is suited for OFWs but can also apply to customers in the Philippines; and through Generika’s merchant partners like LBC (with over 1,000 branches nationwide) and VMobile members (with over one million members).

MedPadala works in three ways: Buy, send and use. Buy MedPadala EGC at any Generika Drugstore branch nationwide or online at www.medpadala.com.ph. MedPadala is also available through its merchant partners LBC and VMobile. Upon purchase, you will receive the MedPadala Code and PIN in your mobile number. The buyer will receive the MedPadala Code which consists of the amount purchased and six alphanumeric numbers: (For example: 1000 – XGT5T3) and the PIN which is a four-digit security number.

You can send MedPadala-EGC to your beneficiary through SMS and e-mail. All you have to do is forward the e-mail or SMS to your beneficiary containing the MedPadala Code and PIN. The PIN is the security of MedPadala. Your beneficiary should keep it confidential.

Your beneficiary can use the MedPadala-EGC instantly upon the receipt of the Code and PIN. Just present the MedPadala Code to the store personnel but not the security PIN. The PIN must be entered by the beneficiary himself into the special keypad in the store to validate his approval.

Meanwhile, Generika Drugstore recently celebrated its 11th anniversary with a medical mission simultaneously held in 11 areas nationwide: Malabon, Taguig, Tarlac, Nueva Ecija, Cavite, Laguna, Quezon Province, Cebu, Negros Oriental, Cagayan de Oro, and Davao.

Since 2008, the medical mission has been the highlight of Generika’s anniversary celebrations. With this year’s theme Serbisyo Publiko sa ika-11 Taong Annibersaryo, a total of 9,731 patients were served. The beneficiaries were provided with medical consultations, free medicines and other health-related services from Generika, with the help of pharma suppliers and other partners. Over a hundred doctors and over 500 volunteers composed of Generika employees from the head office, Generika branches, Red Cross and AFP staff were present during the medical mission.

The annual medical mission aims to provide medical services to Generika customers and to people who belong to the marginalized sector who cannot afford to avail of doctors’ consultation and the medicines they need.

Generika president Teodoro Ferrer expressed his appreciation, “We have received so many blessings over the years. Out of a deep sense of gratitude and a sincere desire to give back to others, especially the millions of less-fortunate Filipinos, we in Generika are fully committed to help communities all over the archipelago. One special way is through the medical missions that our stores regularly conduct. Last month, we did this in 11 locations to commemorate the 11th anniversary of Generika, and about 10,000 people were served. Helping others via medical assistance, especially to the needy is an integral part of our corporate vision: To provide quality affordable generic medicines and superior customer service complemented by a strong sense of social purpose.”
