Sam Rodriguez ventures into acting

MANILA, Philippines - Sam Rodriguez, daughter of the late matinee idol Miguel Rodriguez, is finally trying her luck in acting.

Sam, who was first introduced as a model, will be part of TV5’s “Wattpad Presents: Poser,” together with Akihiro Blanco and Chanel Morales, that will air 7:30 p.m. on October 6.

“Actually TV5 ang nag-contact sa manager ko, si Pia Campos,” she replied when asked during an interview on Thursday how she was approached to do the project.

“‘Yon nga they presented the storyline, they presented the project, and I liked the story. Nagustuhan namin. I think it’s good na ma-try ko ‘yong world of showbiz hindi ‘yong subsuban na right away. So one week miniseries, [and] it’s very light, masaya,” Sam said.

Sam has no background in acting that’s why she said she feels “super nervous."

"Kinakabahan talaga ako kasi hindi ko alam kung magaling ba ako o hindi. So I just tried my best,” she added.

The 23-year-old model turned actress admitted that there’s pressure on her part especially that people are expecting so much from her as she is a daughter of an actor.

“Nando’n naman ‘yon palagi tsaka ‘yong comparison, 'di ba?” she said. “So every time na nag-scene ako, nagdadasal na lang ako kay Daddy na, ‘O, lahat ng talent mo bigay mo na lang sa akin ngayon. Kahit konti lang para ma-get through ko ‘yong scene.’”

So far, Sam said she is beginning to appreciate acting and she's now open to whatever opportunity in the showbiz industry that will come her way.

“Na-try ko naman siya, nagustuhan ko siya,” she said about acting. “Nakakapagod pero kaya naman ng pagod. Nag-enjoy ako kasi masaya ‘yong set, masaya ‘yong tao. Then lahat mabait,  and lahat very accommodating."

“So I wouldn’t mind doing this as a job. Pero siyempre nasa Diyos ‘yan di ba, so whatever opportunities come my way open naman ako.”
