MANILA, Philippines – Richard Poon said he plans to have a child with wife Maricar Reyes after a year or two.
This is because, the singer explains, he wants to have a “wife-centered marriage” with the ABS-CBN actress.
“I want to give her one to two years na siya lang. Married couples, they tell us na kapag nagkaanak ka raw, nagiging child-centered yung marriage. I think, dapat, wife-centered muna,” he said on Wednesday.
But he does not want to wait that much longer, saying he wants to have a boy as their firstborn.
The singer added that Maricar will take a break from doing soap operas after “Sana Bukas Pa Ang Kahapon,” which will end its run on October 10.
“After nito, there were some offers for another teleserye but we had to turn it down kasi mabigat talaga yung taping ng teleserye,” he said.
Richard also said, “Lagi kong sinasabi sa kanya na she's a natural [actress]. Masipag siya manood ng movies para mag-aral ng acting.”
“Bilib na bilib ako sa kanya. At alam kong ako ang opposite sa kanya—hindi ako marunong umarte, kinakabahan ako sa camera. She's a natural,” he explained.
However, he admits finding it difficult to watch Maricar as a kontrabida in the ABS-CBN soap opera.
“When you know her personally, it's so opposite of who she is. Yung mga tao na lang nagbabalita sa akin kung ano ang nangyayari,” he said.
Asked what he thinks is Maricar's most endearing trait that he discovered since they got married, Richard said: “She has the ability to be supportive and at the same time correct me, pero the way she lifts me up is very positive. I think that's quite rare.”
He added: “She's very positive. Wala siyang mean words. She's very, very nice.”
Richard talked to members of the press to promote his latest album “The Crooner Sings Bacharach,” which features cover songs by music icon Burt Bacharach.
“Ayaw namin na para bang so-so lang ang version, dahil madami na ang gumawa. Every song dito pinag-isapan,” he said of his new album.
