Smart partners with Solar Entertainment via Blink app
MANILA, Philippines - Think of a remote control which lets you watch everything Hollywood, sitting right inside your pocket and you have Blink, a new movie and TV show service from Omni Digital Media Ventures, Inc. the digital media group of Solar Entertainment Corp. If you are a subscriber of wireless leader Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart) or Sun Cellular, then you have the key which unlocks all Blink content with just a few taps on your smartphone.
Blink is an app which lets Smart and Sun Cellular subscribers watch hundreds of Hollywood blockbusters and thousands of TV series episodes, charged to their mobile phone load or to their postpaid accounts. This innovation puts the Blink library — the country’s largest video-on-demand streaming service — right in the hands of close to 70 million mobile subscribers.
In a recent event launching Blink at the EDSA Shangri-La Hotel, Mellissa Limcaoco, head of Smart’s innovation and product development Group, said, “Smart has always been at the forefront of innovation. We are glad to work with partners like Solar, which puts a premium on innovation as much as we at Smart do. Blink is a great and easy to use app made even better by innovation — allowing users to purchase content using their Smart load or postpaid account, anytime, anywhere.”
She added, “this partnership allows us to continue creating ways for our subscribers to ‘live more’ with meaningful services that people can actually enjoy — such as viewing their favorite movies and TV shows even while they are on the go and even without a credit card.”
The availability of Blink content using Smart load, according to Limcaoco, is particularly relevant in the Philippines, since credit card penetration in the country is still very low.
“With its vast library of content, Blink further expands Smart’s suite of services that are designed to allow our subscribers to live a ‘connected lifestyle’ — be it music from Spinnr, books and magazines from Buqo, games from GameX and now videos from Blink. These innovations place relevant entertainment right in the hands of our subscribers, that they can enjoy through the reliable and ‘nationwidest’ Smart network — allowing them to truly live more,” Limcaoco added.
According to Blink COO Ronan de Guzman, “we are pleased to have an exclusive telco partnership with Smart and Sun Cellular, which makes Blink services accessible to millions of Filipinos. We hope that this leads people to live more by enjoying movies and TV shows simply by using their cellphone load,” he said.
De Guzman also stressed that “Blink is not here to change TV but to complement viewers’ choices.” He said, “There are times when we want to enjoy cinema while lounging in the house, and there are also times when we lack access to entertainment from reliable sources. Blink looks at these various entertainment opportunities given the demands of the evolving online culture.”
The Blink app is available for iOS and Android devices. It is also accessible through the web via www.blink-now.com. Using Blink, film aficionados can stream movies to their mobile devices for as low as P60 for catalog titles and P99 for newer film releases.
