J Brothers in Brothers Act at Bistro RJ

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Remember the song Pasaway, the hit single in 2004 as written and sung by the J Brothers? In the ’90s, Jay, Jim and Joy Jimenez, popularly known as the J Brothers, made hit ballads like Sana’y Bigyan Mo Ng Pansin, Sorry Na, Wait For Me, Labanan Ang Tukso, Dear Ana, etc.

No, the brothers haven’t gone into early retirement. Even if without Joy, who now resides abroad, Jay and Jim are busy with live performances.

The J Brothers literally grew up onstage. Their exposure to music and performing live before an audience started with the encouragement of their parents. Born to parents Joel Jimenez, who was then scout executive of the Manila South Council of the Boys Scouts of the Philippines, and their mother, who was assistant to the Dean of Music and Arts Department at the Philippine Normal University. They performed all over the Philippines before they left for Holland and Japan. Their comeback brought a series of hits in mid-’90s to 2004.

Apart from being musicians, the J Brothers are comic illustration artists. In between their gigs, they still do illustration jobs. They used to work for Graphic Arts Services, Inc. (GASI) and the Philippine Animation Studio, Inc. They did illustrations for Fantastic Four, X-Men, Biker Mice from Mars, and also showcased their own creations through Exodus.

On July 30 at 9 p.m., J Brothers will have a show titled Brothers Act at Bistro RJ in Dusit Thani Hotel. They will perform songs popularized by the Brothers Four, Everly Brothers, Bee Gees, Doobie Brothers, etc. aside from their hits. The show will have the special participation of The Tiongco Brothers, a trio of siblings that has had maintained a level of performance and popularity for more than five decades. The Tiongcos are the idols of their parents and uncle.

Brothers Act is supported by the Senior Citizens Council of Brgy. San Antonio Chapter, Makati City.
