Jessica Soho retires as GMA-7 news exec

The Philippine Star
MANILA, Philippines – Jessica Soho has retired as GMA-7 First Vice President for News Programs, the network announced on its website on Tuesday, July 1.

“I am most proud of the fact that under my watch, the credibility of GMA News became even stronger. Filipinos watch us because they know we can be trusted to deliver accurate, objective and balanced reporting because we have no political agenda or biases and we have consistently proven that through administrations, past and present,” Soho said in the statement.

However, despite her retirement, the veteran broadcaster will remain with the Kapuso network as host of GMA-7's weekly news magazine program “Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho” and as anchor of GMA News TV's news program “State of the Nation.”

Soho has served the network in different capacities in her 30 years with the network—from news reporter during the 1980s to Acting News Director in 2002.

She was named Vice President for News in 2004, Vice President for News Programs in 2008, and First VP for News Programs in 2013.

“I can never thank the network enough for everything it has given me and my family. I especially thank all my mentors—my bosses and cameramen in our old newsroom as well as my colleagues now—fellow managers, producers, reporters, talents and crews for the opportunity to lead them. It has been a great honor and privilege working with the best in the industry,” Jessica said. “Although I am retired from my position, I will always be a proud member of GMA News and Public Affairs.” - Chuck Smith
