Derek to Matteo: Take good care of Sarah

Let’s set the record straight: Long before Sarah Geronimo admitted that Matteo Guidicelli is her boyfriend (they call each other Mahal), it was The STAR that broke the “scoop” that they were going steady as early as October last year. Check the “proof” (a reprint of that story) on this page. They must have been going steady for eight months but successfully kept it under wraps as a nod to Sarah’s parents who frowned on Sarah’s having a boyfriend.

When Sarah made that anti-climactic confession (in the wake of her and Matteo’s photos splashed on social media for the whole world to see) during the blowout hosted by Star Cinema for the success (more than P135M gross so far) of Maybe This Time, Sarah and Coco Martin’s first movie together, all that Sarah’s over-protective mom Divine could say when asked by media guys what her reaction was was, “S_ _t!”  

Sarah is turning 26 on July 25 and it’s about time she declared her independence from parental control and finally enjoy her long-delayed love life now that she has found Mr. Right in the person of Matteo. Last week, the photo of Matteo embracing Sarah came out on social media. In fact, the sweethearts have been socializing with friends, primarily Sarah’s good friends Judy Ann Santos and husband Ryan Agoncillo, and the last time was when the group had dinner at Matteo’s home.

Incidentally, Sarah’s happy revelation came the day after Matteo left for the States for an ABS-CBN promo, with his former girlfriend Maja Salvador also with the entourage. Remember when Matteo and Coco got into a fight over Maja? Now, was Sarah’s public announcement a veiled reminder for, ehem, Maja to steer clear of her (Sarah’s) personal “property” (you know: Private Property, No Trespassing!).

Among Matteo’s friends, it is Derek Ramsay (who is also managed by Joji Dingcong like Matteo) who is the happiest. Asked by Funfare during a phone chat yesterday afternoon what his friendly advice to Matteo is, Derek said, “He should take good care of Sarah; they should take good care of each other. Like me, Matteo is liberated kasi laking-abroad din siya, while Sarah comes from a traditionally-conservative family. And Matteo should respect Sarah’s beliefs. They should meet halfway because a relationship is give-and-take.”

Sad to say, Derek is loveless. He admitted having gone on dates with a non-showbiz girl but their relationship didn’t progress.

“I have decided to focus on my career,” added Derek, one of the most eligible (read: good catch) guys around. “I’ll just wait for the girl who can sweep me off my feet.”

No, Kris Aquino is not “it,” even if Kris has been vocal about Derek giving her a reason to be happy and to smile, someone who keeps her company on outings every now and then, like when they watched a movie (The Fault in Our Stars) together with Kris’ sons Joshua and Bimby. Posted on Kris’ Instagram: Thanks to the three boys who allowed me to cry my eyes out so that hopefully there are no more tears left.

“There’s nothing romantic between Kris and me,” explained Derek. “I comfort her when she’s feeling low and vice-versa. I am her shoulder to cry on and vice-versa. I want to make it clear that I am single.” Yes, single but not available, single but not willing to mingle.

By the way, people have been wondering what was the pre-nup between her ex-husband James Yap and girlfriend Michela Cazzola that Kris mentioned on The Buzz last Sunday. Was she hinting that James and Michela are getting married, something Kris said she’s very happy about?

“Ano ‘yon?” said the clueless James when Funfare contacted him about it. “Wala akong alam dyan, hehehehe!”

Any wedding soon?

“Wala pa!” laughed James. “Basta, no plans yet.”
