The best of Norwegian horror films at Viking Screamfest

MANILA, Philippines -Tomorrow, May 17, the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Manila will celebrate the bicentenary of the Norwegian constitution with Viking Screamfest, a one-night open-air film festival, mounted in partnership with Kanto Artist Run Space, supported by Vinyl on Vinyl, Wabi Sabi, B-side and The Collective.

As Norway celebrates its 200 years of independence, the Norwegian cultural roots date from much earlier times. Living far from each other, surrounded by dark woods, tall mountains and deep fjords, Norwegians have partly entertained and partly scared each other with myths and folk tales about trolls and gnomes for thousands of years.

This is partly the source of the continuous production of Norwegian horror films, which embrace the gloomy parts of the Norwegian history, fantasy and scenery. The films to be screened at Viking Screamfest are both nationally and internationally acclaimed and loved.

These are Troll Hunter, which tells about a group of students investigating a series of mysterious bear killings and a mysterious hunter; Thale, which is about a Norwegian folklore that turns out to be real; and Cold Prey, wherein a group of friends is forced to seek shelter in an abandoned hotel which is not nearly as empty as it seems.
