Liza Soberano: Not just a pretty face

MANILA, Philippines - Liza Soberano, a budding actress under ABS-CBN's Star Magic, was just so glad that she's been lined up with the prettiest faces in the entertainment industry in Metro Magazine's 25th anniversary issue.

Soberano, known for her supporting roles in a Kathniel's movie and teleserye, was grouped with Kim Chiu, Meagan Young, Toni Gonzaga and Marian Rivera as cover girls of the magazine's anniversary issue.

“I feel so happy that part of me is saying, 'bakit kaya ako?'” Liza gushed in a interview on Tuesday night at Metro's Silver anniversary event. “Biruin mo kasama ko si Kim Chiu, si Marian [Rivera], si Meagan [Young], and si Toni [Gonzaga]."

“It kind of makes me wonder if I deserve to be there. But I also think that maybe I'm doing something right to be with them, and it makes me really happy to know that they've included me in choosing the top 5 covers,” she said.

Aside from being identified with the prettiest faces in the industry, big things are also coming Liza's way. For starters, she has an upcoming project with the Kapamilya network.

The budding actress is now busy undergoing advance acting workshops in preparation for her the project, which, she said, is still being carefully planned.

As the project is considered a big break, Liza said she is giving up college for now to concentrate on her career.

“My manager said I might want to focus on my career first coz like I said, I have a project coming up,” she said. “So I might not have the time to balance it all. But I'll definitely go back to school as soon as possible.”

Liza said that if given a choice, she would like to do projects under the action genre.

She said she would want to do action because she would "want to do something that I wouldn't be able to do in my ordinary life.”

Another reason was that Liza doesn't want to be remembered as another mestiza actress who got in showbiz because of her looks.

“There's a lot of mestiza actresses and it's really hard to be different from the others, to standout,” she admits. “But I like to tell myself to just be me coz everybody have a different personality and I think my personality is different from them.

“I don't know, maybe because I'm the type of person who takes things seriously. I'm very serious for my age. And I think I have this drive to be better and to really prove myself to people. So I think that's enough for me to standout from others.”
