Aljur shrugs off comparisons to competing network’s mermaid show

Chuck Smith - The Philippine Star
MANILA, Philippines – Aljur Abrenica is aware his upcoming GMA-7 primetime show “Kambal Sirena,” which stars actress Louise delos Reyes as the titular mermaid, will air around the same time as the competing network ABS-CBN’s remake of “Dyesebel.”

The Kapuso actor said he’d rather not focus on the competition.

“We’re aware, aware kami sa competition. Pero hindi namin iniisip yan,” he said during a media gathering recently.

“Let’s put it this way — bawat individual na tao, meron tayong kayang gawin. Nagfo-focus kami ni Louise na dapat at our best kami lagi,” Aljur said when asked about the possibility of being compared to “Dyesebel” leading men Gerald Anderson and Sam Milby.

“Kambal Sirena” is Aljur’s first project with Louise — and the first time he’ll work with a leading lady besides perennial onscreen partner Kris Bernal in a long time.

“I’m just thankful na nagkaroon kami ng project ni Kris na ganun karami. Eleven projects together. And this one is a new project, so I’m very excited na makatrabaho si Louise,” he said

His onscreen partnerships don’t bother his girlfriend, fellow Kapuso young star Kylie Padilla. So how does he separate his professional life and personal life, now that his relationship with Kylie is blooming?

“Siguro through experience. Lahat naman tayo natututo, e. Hindi naman tayo pinanganak kaagad na alam na natin ang mga bagay sa mundo,” Aljur explained. “Through experience, nalaman ko kung paano ihiwalay at paano intindihin ang trabaho natin, kung paano intindihin ang mga bagay-bagay na hindi natin matanggap noon.”

“Kambal Sirena” premieres Monday, March 10 on GMA-7.
